i am british, currently live in hk where i earn about 60,000 hkd pm (approx 8000usd, +accom, considering a move to qatar, for better job, and more job satisfaction, money amounts to about the same, with the added bonus of a car.

question is, on the tourist sites etc, it seems to be quite a nice, fun place with plenty to entertain myself with, but i've read some negative stuff on forums that its very expensive and boring etc.

i'm 30, male, like to socialise, single, i rekcon life is what you make it, but i need an honest appraisal.. is this place gonna bore me to death?? are there clubs, pubs etc, sports teams i can get involved in? other guys and more importantly girls, my age??!!

feedback appreciated.

Forgot to add, it is not a fun place and you need an exit permit to leave the country every time.

The phots you've probably seen are concentrated on a small area. They obviously don't reveal the expanses of wasteland.

For a single bloke not recommended.

“quite a nice, fun place with plenty to entertain”???

I am wondering where this info from? There is nothing for the entertainment here. Only very few bars, no proper beaches, no art, no concerts or theatres, no wandering on the streets, no sights to see or attractions to visit. You will need a pass to the bars, your car plates will be spotted once you park your car in the souk’s parking lot, you might find your favorite web sites blocked….

But with all that, i am personally very busy businesswise and in terms of parties and entertainment... hard to expalin how it happends, but it does..

but again, don't expect boiling social life here such as hundreds available girls around, endless fun, etc.

Sports? even GYMs are crazy expensive here...

The salary seems reasonable in the current economic climate, I note accommodation is included, prices have dropped dramaitcally over the past 12 months due to more coming onto the market, so would have been benefical financially to get the allowance and go after a bargain

as for life, like you say it whats you make out of it, there are places to go,guys and girls to meet, there are sports clubs etc to join and there are enough to do to keep you busy, however as I note you would be comming from Hong Kong do expect a BIG difference !!!! and I mean BIG, there are not pubs clubs all along the streets as in the UK and HK !!!!!

As for expnensive !!! somethings are and somethings arent, fuel is 12p a litre (currently 1GBP plus, in the UK !!!) drinks can be expensive but bargains can be found

And if you do get bored Dubai is only 1 hour away for a change of scenery during the weekend !!!

Money sounds Ok, but as a single bloke, you're probably making the wrong move. There ain't going to be much socialising going on and to be honest you would be better off trying Dubai. You will get bored here.

It is quite expensive as well since everything is imported. I think the only thing made here is lever arch files.
