How can an individual cash an usa check In Qatar?
I got this check from usa of $150 by mail in 1 month,
I went to HSBC because this is the bank issued on the check.
however the agent told me that they have to send the check back to the u.s for clearance and it would take 3 more weeks and they would charge me for it.
I was shocked!!!
is there any Check Cashing Companies in Qatar?
is there any way I can cash checks in Qatar?
Plz help!!!
i had the same issue for almost the same amount as u have now .. i have submitted to QNB and had to wait for almost 2weeks and + to get it encashed. i guess thats the only one way .. they charged me around 30QR but it was smooth transaction.
it will take 3 weeks, thats standard across all banks. try with exchange houses maybe they have such service but am sure it will cost you more, good luck..
No bank will cash a check drawn on a US bank - from what you say, your check is drawn on a branch of HSBC in the US - therefore, it has to be sent to that bank in order to draw the funds. This is standard for all banks anywhere in the world.
Best bet, get the person who issued the check to send you an international money order drawn on a Qatari Bank. All banks maintain USD accounts with US banks, so then the bank here can cash it. Or, have them wire the money to you.
If it's a check/draft drawn on any bank in Qatar you could go to that bank to speed up encashment time. If it's drawn on a US bank/branch, obviously it has to be cleared from there and may take 3-4 weeks and you cannot escape the charges; the amt. is too small for the bank to waive charges and benefit from the exchange margins.
Unfortunately, yes, you will be charged for it.
Try going to Habib Exchange that is on Musherib street, opposite Panasonic (previously National showroom).
I had got some UK checks cleared there and I was charged Qr 20/check. But yes, it will take about 30 days.
Your best bet is to deposit it in your account and wait. The amount is too small for any fast cash route.
