Al Gharafa - how is it? (or other suggestions

we are moving to Doha in Jan 2010. Will be working near Lusail / Westbay area and are looking to rent a nice villa.

Looking through the classifieds, it would seem that Al Gharafa would seem well placed and within budget (about 10-12,000 p/m).

Can anyone tell me what its like there - we have 2 kids (1 and 5 - schools to be confirmed...), so need access to parks, shops, and a nice community.

Anyone have experience of this area or can suggest other areas?

Much appreciated.

Hi Hanna.

We moved to a 4/5 bed villa with plenty of space in a compound of 20 other villas. There is a communal pool area, gym and garden space, though not much of an individual back yard.

Paying about 11,500 pm.

I think there should be plenty available - new villas are going up everywhere nearby, so plenty of choice!

For Education City and Compass school you will be fine in this area - traffic in the morning is not as bad as most of Doha - even to Westbay, it only takes 15-20 minutes.

let me know if I can be of any more help.

Imad.

hello madimad i was just wondering if you managed to find anything suitable. i'm interested myself as i'll be coming over this summer (hubby's already there). we need a villa near education city and compass school with a minimum of 3 bedrooms pref 4-5. we need spacious living area and garden/courtyard for 12000-13000. wondering if you've seen anything that fits the bill?

Hi Craig.

We will be arriving in Qatar tomorrow and have a month from then to find a place to live. Do you have many vacant properties at the moment? If you give me your number I will give you a call when we arrive.

Thanks,

Imad

Hi we live in Al Gharafa, and have found it okay, it is quite central for most things and pretty easy to get to most places. As someone has said we have Lulu and Carefour to shop in. My husband commutes to West Bay every day and its not too bad. My daughter goes to Dess and it now takes me about 20 mins in morning depending on what time i leave to take her to school. Traffic is bad wherever you live in the mornings but I have found you do get used to it (I have, just go with the flow). There are lots of Villas being built around here at the moment, so there should be plenty of choice. Hope this helps.

Hi, we're a professional estate agent established in Qatar for over 5 years.

If you're working in Lusail/West Bay area then ideal locations for you would be Dafna (which can be expensive), Duhail, Gharrafa and Al Naimh area. Duhail and Gharrafa have the larger selection of properties within your price range (is this price for Unfurnished, Semi or Fully Furnished?)

We lease both our own properties and those of other landlords so can offer a wide selection for you to choose from.

Importantly, unlike many other agents, we do not charge you, the client, a fee for our services. So if we can be of help please feel free to come back to me.

Regards

Thanks for the advice so far!

Of course I will not sign ANYTHING before viewing, but am simply trying to narrow the field down a bit!

Thankfully I get a month in a hotel from my employer so I will have some time when I get there - but its nice to know beforehand just to make sure on budgets and everything.

Isnt Westbay itself rather pricey?? The only thing I have seen there is the zig-zag tower, which apart from being a dreadfully executed bit of architecture also seems to have bad space planning inside the apartments...

Hi I live in Gharafa for over Year now as it is close to my work. Doha college is 20 minutes drive from the interchange and once the north road is opened you could reach to the airpport in 20 minutes. Land Mark mall, LULU Hyper market are there in the area.

However you have to come and see the villas before signing any contract.

Trust that abve is clear.
