QAWS :: WET WEATHER PLEA!!
Well winter is finally here and the dogs at QAWS are all desperately pleading for any unwanted towels, blankets or duvets to keep them warm at night. The temporary runs at the farm are all outdoors and even though every dog has a nice kennel to go inside and the runs have roofs, it's still cold at night.
With all the rain and mud we are having to change all their bedding daily so are getting through over a hundred towels and blankets a week and we can't keep up with the washing as everytime we hang one load out to dry it rains!! Is anyone in a position where they could take home a load of towels and wash and tumble dry them? That way we can keep a constant supply of clean, dry towels and blankets at the farm.
A few words of advice to all our visitors and volunteers over the next few weeks:
* DO NOT drive your car onto the farm! Please make sure you park in the Visitors Parking area just outside the farm. Too much traffic on the farm makes the mud worse!
* Please don't turn up when we are closed. There might not be a car there to help you out of the mud if you do get stuck! We are still getting visitors turning up in the dark and that's when people run into trouble with the mud.
* Wear sensible clothes and shoes. Trainers, boots or wellies are a must and wear clothes that you don't mind getting muddy. Bring a waterproof jacket with you in case of a sudden downpour whilst you're at the farm!!
Please remember that although it might only rain for a couple of days, the farm will be muddy for the next few weeks so make sure you come dressed accordingly!!
On the plus side it's a great excuse to be a kid again - dig out your wellies and come and splash in the puddles with the dogs!! Just be prepared to get dirty and remember to try and dry off your dog as much as you can before putting them back in their kennels!!
