Pretty neat, the music is nice and the caption 'Expect Amazing' is catchy...

Been on youtube for a while but few views... definitely worth a post on QL...

2174 views in one months when I posted this thread, lets see how much of a difference QL makes to that :-)

Yes,BUT Observer is right in the sense that people should look at things positively. Being optimistic is not blind idealism. It is the belief that while things are not so great at the moment, they could be better.

Ok....first of all after watching previous Qatar tourism videos, i was hugely disappointed by the world cup video. These videos are meant to excite you, inspire you...it did neither. The tag 'expect amazing' is of course equally awful.

England has not yet made an official video...I don't think, but most of the cities hosting in England have... This is London's effort:

As for the bid itself, well it's just one huge commercial for the country. I don't think anyone in Qatar believes they have a chance.

Ask people in Europe and the west what Qatar is, and most would answer, I think you'll find it's pronounced guitar...BUT the bid is slowly changing this.

To be realistic, Qatar stands close to zero chances.

Just considering the weather in June and July (when the world cup MUST take place), it is NOT possible (air-conditioned stadiums are a turn-off to the Climate Change driven world). No need to mention many other handicaps at all levels witnessed during the 2006 Asian Games, the lack of infrastructures, the lack of a world class football team and many many other etcs...

Moreover, the World Cup takes place in several major cities and sometimes in more than one Nation.

Where in Qatar, are located the several major cities?!

Versi - I don see Philipinos either in the Ad...

Not jus the sub-continent missing here...

But doesn matter....

As long as the Ad is nice. n I thought the last aerial view was a Graphics stuff.... not possible tht such a well synchronized run ll be done by bunch of people in Qatar....

If you saw the kids running with lights inside ground for Brazil-England Match.... I was expecting much more than wht they did then.

Thanks, The Observer & Stone Cold for having positive views regarding the country-Qatar. The government under the ruling of Sh. Hamad bin Khalifa is trying very hard to do more to improve the country. Qatar got the money, the resources and is trying hard to get the technologies and expertise to go through events like these. They want to put and make the name of Qatar well known all over the world. Couple of decades ago, when I go out of the country, and people ask me from where I am, when I tell them Qatar- then can't even pronounce it properly. But now, lots of people know Qatar. And when I watch CNN, BBC, MSNBC and see Qatar's advertisement, I feel proud. Since Qatar is the bread and butter of some people, I hope they will feel proud too.Old people say if you live in another country, then only way to enjoy it is to appreciate and live like the locals. Because if you will continue to live in this country and is not happy with what you see, I suggest better to look for your bread and butter somewhere else..maybe you will be happy over there.

It will take years for this nation to be great but at least we are starting and trying hard to reach there.

Really, I don't see Qatar having problem to meet all these set standards. She's quite rich and theres money to build just anything. It's just a matter of time their plans would be operationalised. However FIFA standards have to be met within a frame of time. Lots of effort and planning have to be met to ensure the bidding success. Wish Qatar good luck.

I am not sure about the increase in sitting capacity but they are improving the lighting levels to match new FIFA guidelines for televised International matches in all the clubs. This should be done well before December 2010.

@verisimilitude: ur topic was on the main page from days! that is why it got all these replies. how did u not notice it! don't u usually visit the main page? :)

@deepb: They can manage public transport just like they succeeded in that during the asian games..

@carol2008: I agree with u that following a schedule is not a norm here but when it comes to a big event like that they will follow the schedule! and it will be monitored by the FIFA!

thanks for the information Sandeep

I just noticed that this thread is a featured article and bumped up to the front page... :-D

Thanks mod... the thread looks so cool with the pic and stuff instead of the stupid link that was showing earlier...

I just noticed one thing I didn't like about the ad was that stupid guy in the black suit on the phone, he's the only one that's standing still... strange... but now I am being really picky, but anyway...

that apart, coming back to the bid, it would be nice to hear the official replies to some of these concerns that are voiced all over the internet about the Qatari World Cup bid... the stadias and infrastructure and stuff...

And believe me, it is not fault of the expat workers... every single delay has been caused by local clients/authorities/suppliers, etc....

So, even if we really believe in all this magical forecast you mentioned... we all know that following a schedule and respecting a contract here in Qatar are not really the norm.

What about public transport or budget accommodation? Never mind, why do I even bother. This bid is a joke. It's more like some distraction for some locals by the government.

By anonymous• 22 Dec 2009 07:29

Observer FIFA has to take decision in December 2010. Some infrastructure has to be in place by then, which isn't likely. They can't believe only the promises.

Kalifa Stadium has a capacity of 40000 and as I said they will have 12 years to build the required infrastructure and they have the money and well to do it!

Population is booming in Qatar in recent years! the population doubled in the last few years and if it continued with this rate after 12 years we will have more than 4 millions in 2022!

To be more specific about why infrastructure is a problem... the World Cup requires 12 stadiums with more than 40000 capacity... Qatar has one stadium with more than 25000 capacity... quite a gap...

Also some of the much talked about venues don't have the required capacities either...

Also, Qatar has a population of 1.6mn... the world cup might mean millions of people flying in... the numbers don't add up...

@ flanostu: why are you saying that I can't handle criticism? I am not a local nor I represent the government! I am expat like you and I know exactly what you are talking about cause I lived here for 25 years (all my life)and per laws I can lose my residency if the employer decided to do that! so me myself criticize and I said in my previous reply that its good to criticize but what I disagreed with is to criticize each and every thing!

Notice that the topic was about the COMMERCIAL and the criticism was about it although it was great but you turned it to talk about the bid it self and other things!

What do you mean there is no infrastructure? what about khalifa stadium? what about al-sad? and Qatar stadium? and many others, all are big and state of the art! and until 2022 there are 12 years they can build tens of stadiums like what happened in south africa which had poor stadium structures and built them later on! and yes money can make you win the bid because with money you can do every thing! you can build huge stadiums and you can hire experts to organize your event! like what happened in Asian games which by the way is the second biggest multi- sport event after the Olympics! so how on earth could u say its not a big event? and the Asian comity it self complimented qatar for its great organizing!

The final football match in the asian games? many of my expatriate friends attended that match with no problem and Qataris had to buy tickets to enter (except those who had invitations) so who said it was for free for them? was this Brazil match for free for them also?! I am not saying their organizing for brazil match was perfect cause me myself had to wait in a very log queue to enter the match but that could be solved!

So what I mean its healthy to criticize what u see wrong but what is wrong is to have the negative mentality all the time and enter each topic just to criticize without even thinking about what you are saying! like the topic about the national day some criticized that there is no source to know the events and timings and this always happens in Qatar! while there was a dedicated website with all timings and events!

I say stop listening to advertisements and humongous commercial concepts! Think a bout long-lasting functions for the actual development of the country!

By verisimilitude• 17 Dec 2009 10:30
verisimilitude

seen there... done that... although my hassle was not as bad as flanotsu's... couldn't help but comment on the poor management...

there was a loooong queue to get in... and when I got to the gate, I realized why... there was just one sorry looking old man with a scanner who was supposed to scan the tickets... ho hum...

Actually when the security realized that they wouldn't be able to get everyone inside in time, they just thot to hell with the tickets and let everyone in... some organization that...

simple math... that section had a 1000 people in there... assuming that each ticket takes 5 seconds to be scanned... that would still take an hour and a half... but wait... what about the people who are in the wrong queue or have ticketing problems... that would be a atleast 20%... it would take 15 seconds to explain to them that they are in the wrong queue or that their tickets are invalid... that would take another hour... so basically they expect people to start coming in three hours before a football match???... ridiculous...

there should have been atleast five scanners for each section...

By flanostu• 17 Dec 2009 09:57
flanostu

observer, if you can't handle criticism you're the one that needs a reality check.

FIFA reps have even commented that qatar has no chance. there is no infrastructure whatsoever and let's be honest, they're only bidding because they didn't even get a look in for the 2016 olympics.

the asian games wasn't a big event and even it was, the way it was handled was disgraceful. expats that had tickets to the football final weren't allowed in because preference was given to locals for free......and why, because qatar made it to the final expectantly.

the recent england brazil match also highlighted many problems. for one they don't know how many seats are in the stadium (yes correct, i had a ticket for row 30 and it only went to row 28 in my designated section). and don't get me started on what my other friends experienced that night.

expats are conspicuously missing from the bid but i'd be interested to hear what the vulnerable construction workers have to say about this. actually we're all vulnerable, you just reminded me, i have to arrange my exit permit for holidays.

people say i'm a guest in this country...how wrong could someone be. this is my home, i live and work here, just because i have a different passport doesn't mean i have to bury my head in the sand and ignore basic facts and common sense.

money won't buy the WC so it would be better spent on getting this country in order, which will take another 20-25years.

life without criticism, it doesn't happen my friend!

the commercial might even be ok - havent seen it yet - but it doenst mean it shows reality. Honestly... qatar doesnt have the mind set, the openess to host naything that involves people different than their own.

By verisimilitude• 17 Dec 2009 08:34

no two ways about it

the aerial shot is just fantastic... the idea is nice... everyone gets together and creates something special...

there are references to history, culture, tradition, family values, youth, children, education, the modernization of Qatar, even a lady in a hijab blends in

and all of this while representing most different races

BUT..

when a deliberate effort has been made to include everyone, why have they excluded the one race that constitutes the majority of the people here?

Its very conspicuous by its absence...

By The Observer• 17 Dec 2009 00:59

Thanks for sharing this amazing commercial!

and guys STOP BEING NEGATIVE ABOUT EVERY THING HAPPENS IN QATAR!!

It became like a habit in Qatar living that u see people criticizing each and every thing no matter how good it was!

Every time I go inside a topic about something happening in Qatar I expect to have %90 negative replies! what is the problem with u people? it ok to criticize about what u see wrong but when u see every thing around u from a negative prospective then I think u have a problem!

The commercial was simply AMAZING! very nice and took huge efforts to become like what u saw! so its not only not bad! its great! why should u always search for something to criticize in every thing? I mean come on do u want them to include each nationality out there in Qatar in their ad!

u guys have to be supporting the country u r living in!
