watched a hindi movie 'Road to Sangam'; an average abstract art movie, shown how one person (a muslim) could change the mindset of the whole community residing in his vicinity.

Just consider; if we haven't divided, where would WE have stand today on the Globe!

RAYS of HOPES and PEACE......

'Aman ki Asha' :)

When I said partly agreed bcoz; I am not aware of full historical info, what you have given in the previous comment. You may be correct :)

We all know the solution is quite simple but need strong determination and actions from both sides politically, socially, geographically and economically.

Kashmir creates more pains then gains to either sides.....basically poor Kashmiris have to face the brunt of terrorism and backwardness, losing revenues, tourist, etc. 'WE' shall solve this issue FIRST to clear all other obstacles in the way to INDOPAK relations.....

We all know that overseas Pakistanis have huge foreign exchange and could support their country but due to corruptions at the ground does not allow this funds to reach the deserved places. However continuous assistance could definitely bring harmony and peace....I do hope.

It is purely my personal views and looking forward to PEACE, Harmony, Balanced growth and development in the Region.

Ray of Hope!

Amidst all the darkness around & unfortunate development I can see very important tool to tackle it all.

We know Overseas pakistanis sent last year around $8.6 billion while Kerry Looger Bill donation is $7.5 billion that too $ 1.5 Bn per year and for that US wants all kind of checks & balances and funny thing is Pakistani leadership is agreeing. (i quote this example to show shallowness in approach by current govt of not using its own people but begging with US)

Now, this overseas remit can be doubled & trippled very easily including more FDI provided pakistan comes out clean from current mess which sounds not easy in current scenerio & the path have chosen.

i am NOT finding fault here but wants to remind the importance of the Pakistani Diaspora which CAN and has an important SAY in pak's local issues.

Moreover these are people who are welloff and seen the world and know the importance of having peace and growing alongwith the rest of the world. same way Indian sent some $50 billions in remmirence last yrs and forms a strong pressure group in their setup)

I guess these pressure groups, if activated 'well', can be used in sorting out Indo-Pak problems too. India has a strong caucus in US (they used it during neuclear deal) and so does pakistan, same in UK and other places and here in ME too.

Solutions are simple, first of all, accept staus quo on kashmir, each party has some of it and remain happy with that. make business main stay and let the businessmen drive the wayahead.

Unless kashmir is settled, nothing (my view only) can be sorted out, permanantly.

Stop zingoism from both side wherein one says to live eating grass but fight for 1000 years (he really meant it n made a prosperous land almost living like beggers(US aids) and other say they need only 46 hours to finish a soveriegn nation itself ( and can't tackle their naxals which spreads to third of them).....!

I want it desperately but seems for another few centuries substantial peace is a mirage.

I give two examples- one during AB & Mushy regime it was almost settled. first mushy gave backstabbing to AB's historical bus march to lahore in the name of Kargil, then two, in Agra summit when things were settling down finally Adwani & co derailed it and a great effort by AB & Mushy gone in vain.

I wish peace could happen but thats not possible in forseeble future unless both countries are blessed with two Powerful Statsman (at the same time) but I can't see.

Because now fundamental dimensions have shifted. india is not same as it use to be 20 years ago, Pakistan is also not same as it use to be 20 years back.

These efforts are good, welcoming but leads to None.

Does any1 know what changes Gen Zia did in education system 20 years back, all anti India (read anti hindus)stuffs implanted and that new generation is now at working age, results are obvious when Tanvir Sohail says " these hindus are like this only" (after IPL debacle). I think many must be knowing in around 04-05 there were major changes done in Pak education system removing those stuffs and to make it more tolerant.

In other side of border,Same things done by Indira gandhi regime for years togather including breaking pakistan itself (ask any1 it hurts to see your country divided)and if Ms gandhi had been alive, Russian had taken over pakistan after afganistan. Tit for tat, Khalistanis, supported by Pak, finished that agenda then n there. List of these Politics long and never ending..and still ON.

I see no hope in current scenerios. indians are working overtime for pakistan's balknisation while pakistan is sincerely trying to see India bleeds. Future will tell what happens? but both sides are sincere, sincerely LOL!!!

Very funny equations are developing, Pakistan allying with China and India joining US. already India Japan Aus & US pacted to reastrain China (it happened a few years back) while china is now having bases in kashmir (land "gifted" by Pakistan) and balochistan to gherao india.

India has recently saved lots of buck (they now 'donate lol) while china's money is Pkaistan's ( freinds afterall..lol).

My worry is, when these dirty wargame are executed, i (comman man with no name & face) will lose my life, peace freedom family..for what???

whenever the talks are planned, there is a blast in one of the cities in india...some people dont want peace to prevail..

By Victory_278692• 15 Feb 2010 16:42
Victory_278692

I said earlier.....

India is always a soft target for such an attack; headley gilani visited Indian cities, plotted several places, his mission accomplished by delegating the terror jobs to young local idiots.

it is very easy to just blame somebody but very difficult to identify the root causes, analyse the situation and provide most appropriate measures to solve the issue.

There is a huge grey areas, which need immediate attention. If interested send me a PM, I'll provide several steps/measures how to protect our nation from further divisions.

Honestly speaking, We are never serious in solving the issue. We are always waiting for an attack to provide remedies.

It is high time we need to be more pro active and diligent than before.

Remember when there is Strong Will there are many positive Ways!

It was really sad to see...... ...

2 young sibling souls perished among 9 killed in this blast.

I was amazed on our prejudice media; who had already shot their guns in Air; without any strong evidence; while SIT working 24/7 preparing a final report of blast.

War and terrorism won't bring harmony and all parties involved are BIG LOSERS.

We need to initiate A Peaceful War on terror to remove this cancer from our planet....

To bring Change in any society or system, needs lot of hardwork, Courage, Passion and support. Otherwise People treat the change agent as 'Revolutionary' and Hang him.

Peace

TOI..........Aman ki Aasha

The Himalayan ranges, covering an area of about 650,000 sq km, have shaped the culture, politics, religion, mythology, climate and military doctrines of all six countries - Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Nepal and Pakistan. The Great Mountain Arc encircles India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan - a land mass of a little more than four million sq km. This area has 1.5 billion inhabitants; around 22% of the world population in an area about half the size of the US.

The arc, the inescapable environmental stimuli in the Indo-Pak region, has been the most impenetrable natural barrier between the subcontinent and whatever lies north, east or west of the Arc. Genghis Khan founded the ‘largest contiguous empire in history’ but failed to circumvent the Himalayas into India. The Himalayas continue to shield India from invaders in the north (read: China). Other than the Sino-Indian border skirmishes of 1962, the history has never witnessed any major invasion across the Himalayas.

As a consequence, based on environmental determinism, Indian military strategists in the post-Independence period laid out an ‘Order of Battle’ whereby at least half of all Indian Army corps were stationed within a striking distance from the Indo-Pak border. Pakistani strategists, with little threat from the west, also laid out an ‘Order of Battle’ whereby six of the nine corps were stationed within a striking distance from the border.

India and Pakistan are in a state of active hostility. For FY 2009, India’s defence spend, as per Jane’s Information Group, will rise by 50% to a colossal $32.7 billion. The budget translates into 2.7% of the country’s GDP. In the same period, Pakistan’s official defence spend is set at $4.3 billion (unofficial estimates go as high as $7.8 billion). If we were to match India’s rise, we would have to spend above 5% of our GDP on defence. For the record, the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia used to overspend their GDP on defence - Soviet Union is no more, so is Czechoslovakia.

As per the World Bank data, 74% of Pakistanis earn $2/day or less as opposed to 75% Indians. Roughly, one out of every two Pakistanis is short on food. Last year, there were 60 million Pakistanis short on food. That number now stands at 77 million; a 28% increase.

Over the past century, economic development has been all about trans and cross-border trading. Pakistan has two population centres - central Punjab and Karachi. The former is 1000km away from the nearest port. And the area between Karachi and central Punjab can’t support population concentration. To grow, we must trade. And, the only population concentration to trade with is on our east.

Time and money are on India’s side. Dialogue among civilians means little. What is needed is a strategic dialogue. How can India be persuaded to pull back its offensive formations? What would we give in return? Pakistan can’t race a race that it can’t win.

The writer is the executive director of Center for Research and Security Studies, Pakistan. This column was written for Jang.

rayyz said Defining People on Indo-Pak Thread ...

Alright guys, I am gonna make an effort to try and define people who have posted at this thread. No offense meant, just take it in the right spirit. Its supposed to be funny alrite! :P

Let me begin with my real life friends first :

Oldtimer: Mad about sex and women. Reads a lot on this thread but doesn't bother writing. Whenever he does, its hardly anything worthwhile. Wants to own this thread! (Gimme a break!!!)

Motiv8er: Controversy King. Makes a cameo appearance whenever there's a fight happening. Gives his piece of crap and disappears into oblivion. Claims that Nottoknow is his clone. But we all know now who is real clone is!

Neo: Thread creator. Maintains double standards, pretends to be a simple guy, but isn't. Desperate to a certain extent. Can't differenciate real life and QL. Ain't good at taking jokes.

Han: Auntie of QL. Always has an opinion. Internet is her life! She browses QL in logged out mode, just to pretend she isn't online. Her kids are most precious things to her, we barely hear her talking about her hubby. Uses a lot of masha'allah and all that but doesn't do 5 times prayers.

Hassen: Couldn't figure him out much yet. Desperate big time. Only pops up whenever we're talking of meeting, especially when women are involved. Never says hello when two or three guys are meeting. Promises and doesn't answer phones.

Shraddhay: Confused soul. Didn't what she was doing on QL. Guess it was more of an infatuation. No sooner she realised its a bore, she quit it.

NTN: New girl on the block. Show off. Knows Doha much better than she pretends. Likes to read all the dirt men post, but doesn't comment on it. Loses her head once in a while. Loves to fight with Ray.

Colt: New dude on the block. Pretends to be funny on QL, but isn't so funny in real life. His hindi sux, if you wanna say something bad about him, do it in hindi, it will go bouncers. Still couldn't figure out what 'Yadda' is. Regrets on getting married so soon.

Quddus: Don't know what he writes half of the time. He tries to be friendly with all, but his real intention is to get to Doha and get as much info about Doha from guys in here. But sounds like a good guy in real life.

SFD: He posted thinking it would be interesting in here. Wrote a few sher and shayari in here, didn't get much appreciation. Quickly realised he was at a wrong place and quit immediately.

LOL. Had fun writing it. Did I miss anyone??? I am open to ALL SORTS OF CRITICISM! But remember you will be writing against someone who has almost attained sainthood. So watch out!

The Players the performers they go and stay in Hotel never got attacked by any one just recently the Sri Lankans were attacked.

am just trying to tell you no matter how close they get to each other kashmir will split them again.

Khanan said it. DA discussions and debates on the issues should be banned first, we are not here to find who is wrong and who is right.

We are here to clean up the hatred between the people of both sides and grow friendship and love among them.

we want to get over it. We all know that there are problems and deadlocks b/w the two nation but we want to put it behind. We are starting at public level. Reaching to the common people of both the nation. Trying to erase the hate and enemity against each other which is being filled their by politicians.

There is already a sub-continent group on QL and we can re-energize it again.

Common every one knows who is behind all this mess. Only the Kashmiris. They wont let them live in peace till they dont get free from Pakistan and India. They dont want to be part of India and Pakistan. And when looking at all this that both countries are getting forward with peace dialogue they will send their Mujahids to India and Pakistan. In end both countries start blaming each other that those terrorists were from your country. Where did this all begin from every single politician knows that from Kashmir. Ppl say Kashmiris are this and that but i say they are the worst racists. Kashmir is like heaven but the Mirpuris F888888ked it all up.

We hosted our Indian brothers to a party celebrating the 20-20 world cup win. It was fun.

We need to pass the message in our communties that we have many things in common and lets stick to it and difference will subside. Inhsa'Allah.

Well, I personally love some of the Pakistani stand up comedians. They rocked the Great Indian Laughter Challenge! There were a couple of guys from Pakistan in my college for exchange term & I found them quite similar to us in all respects. Hell, they knew all the bollywood movies by heart. But lets be realistic on the diplomatic front. I still believe people can do a lot more to bring peace to our part of the world. Damn the politicians & the generals!

Good post Victory.

So much need to be done, political agendas should be realised and faught. Extremists and infiltrations should be stopped. A collective effort from both sides could do wonders.

The peace talks has the right goal but wrong approach. Terrorist attacks like 26/11 will kill the public support for peace, there should be strong effort from the side of the authorities to stop any sort of incidents which will hurt the process. Thers hould be serious and sincere effort to eradicate the decades old hatred in people.

If they join hands ,leave alone US and China, Pak wouldnt need anyones help to eradicate the existing domestic issues. Ther will deffintly be peace in both countries. Lets hope and pray.

The two leading media houses of India and Pakistan - The Times of India and the Jang Group - have come together to develop a stronger Track 2 in the diplomatic and cultural relations between India and Pakistan. "Aman ki Asha: Destination Peace" looks beyond the confines of a 62-year-old political boundary to the primal bonds that tie together the two peoples .
