Lottery Scammers targetting Qatar Mobiles!
I just got a call on my mobile from an international number +92 area code, the caller told me that I had won a QR 50,000 draw from Qtel. The caller said that they had tried to contact me via mail but I had not responded, which is why they're calling to tell me I won. I thought this must be a scam but then he told me that to verify the prize I would need to check the number on my sim card. He gave me a number and told me to check my sim card and call him back if it matches. So at this point I'm thinking "maybe this is legit and start dreaming of a nice holiday!"
I pulled out my SIM and voila! It was the same number that he had read out. Was it true?
I still had a doubt so I called Q-Tel directly. They told me that it was a scam and that a number of other people had called them.
Now the only question is, how did he know the number on the back of my SIM card?
(P.S. The scammer called me from +923016496636)
i rcieved call today
from+971 i.e Dubai
all fraud
they me no.89974
i am also victom of fraud.
i have gotten calls like that, but i hung up even before the caller gets through..
Has anyone been getting what they are told are collect calls, using a Qtel phone and asking if I will accept the charges. Since no one I know would call me that way I ignore them.
lol saggi, congratulate them back and say they've made complete asses of themselves... :P

Better not to respond these numbers.
I also had the same kind of call. i thought it was one of my relative so i called back and they said that i had won qr100.000, they also said that they are speaking from Q-tel headquarters and they wanted my ID number and passport number with my fathers name. At that point i realised its a scam and hungup.
So guys be smart and don't give out your details to anyone over the phone.
What are you eating that you are so dummy to reply to any miss call from other countries.
Dont be idiot.
BE smart guy.
If someone need you they call you many times.
And if is misscalls do not reply.

Solution- Greed is bad!!! as simple as that.
Recently a few employees in Etisalat was picked up for doing a similar kind of trick, though it was with small amount and related to pre-paid cards i think.

Or
Say Wrong Number
moeed, very simple....
All Qtel SIM serial numbers are of 19 digits and start with 89974. the fraudster just gives you those first 5 digits and tells you to validate it. Obviously it will match. next time you guys get a call tell him to validate the complete number.
then he will take you down the "western union money transfer" route
Really surprised about how he got your simcard serial number, did you told about this to qtel people when u called them ?
Don't trust people immediately
bad people are everywhere, they always looking for their innocent victims.
i gav my po box no. to someone who called from +92......
the next day i received a big COW and CID's called me for investigation.....:(
Holy COW....:(
That's awful. Thanks for the heads-up.
I never bithered about the privacy of POBox. Use to give freely whenever asked. Will be careful from now on.

Knowing the SIM card serial no. is no big deal, but it shows these guyz may be having access (or might have worked or have supplied SIMs) to Qtel. afterall, Q tel must be having records for which mobile number what numbered SIM is issued.
Many of us have got such calls (miss calls) from this gang and it seems to be an organized one. I'm sure they may even be reading us in QL.
For us best way is to not get lured and for Q tel to bar these numbers.
tnx pajju.
