We are looking for a new addition to our family, and thought of adopting a small breed puppy/dog. As of now I think QAWS donot have any small breeds. So if anyone knows about anyone willing to give one for adoption, please do inform us.

If you live in an apartment you might consider getting a cat. They are lots of fun for kids but less hassle to take care of and might have a calming effect on your son.

Jasmine I understand the concern, and taken in good sense, but it so happens that though my son is energetic he does enjoys the company of pets, he is not rude to them but enjoys seeing them play. I had the chance of bringing him in contact with two GSD's and one Jack Russell, believe me he was real happy. That's why I am looking for a good tempered dog. I live in an apartment and dont have much space, as bigger breeds need good exercise.

We are basically a dog loving couple too..hehe

It is never a good idea to buy a dog to entertain energetic children. By all means a family dog makes a family happy but little snappy breeds plus hyper kids often equals bite followed by euthanasia of dog. If you take your child to the hospital you will get huge grief from the doctors who may threaten to call the Police. Children should never be left unsupervised with dogs and dogs should never be depended on to work off children's energy.

I may sound like I am preaching but feel qualified after years working in a Doha vet clinic and seeing the sadness of untrained (because they didn't bother to)snappy little small breed dogs put to sleep or dumped because through no fault of its own it growled at the kids.

By small breed i dont specify any particular breed, it can be a mixed breed too. It just have to be good in temperament, good in energy, and preferably young so that it can adapt to our environment. It can be small or medium too. The size is specified due to space constrictions. Sorry.

Thanx Aisha, I had checked the posting before and it is mentioned that Elmo needs a home with no other pets or children. On the other hand I am looking for a pet not only for just pet sake but a very good friend for my 3 year old son who has hell of an energy.

I would love to wait till something appears in QAWS, but the matter is how will I come to know when it is available?? I have already enquired with few people, but is there anyway that I can keep my request active, so that QAWS inform me on anything available.

Please do NOT buy a puppy from one of the pet shops here. Many are sick and are not treated well. By buying an animal from them you are helping to contribute to the cycle of misery these people perpetuate.

Call the local vets - they often have dogs looking for homes.

Otherwise, can't you wait until one becomes available from QAWS or the vet? You'll get a great dog and you will both benefit in the end.
