How much does one pay live-in maids nowadays if they are on their own sponsorship?

I have looked at older threads and think that we need to know current trends.

Thanks all for your responses. Medan - I totally agree with you. I am all for paying househelp a competitive salary because I will be entrusting my 3 year old to her.

If your maid is locally hired/own their own sponsorship, usually paid between QR1200 up to QR2000. But the one you hire from agency, usually paid only between QR700-900/month (since the cost of the agent is very expensive : Qr7000 up to 9000 !!!

But most of westerners over a very good salary up to QR3000.

It's depend on your generousity and the work/behaviour of your future maid. If she works good, I believe she deserve good salary too.

Thanks for enlightening me marycatherine! I am sure most of us are already aware of everything you have mentioned.

I am expecting figures as older threads mention 600 to 800Qr which I personally think do not think reflect market trends and demand.

I pay what I consider (a) a living wage and (b) what keeps my helper happy - I trust her with my home and family when I am not there. I know she has a family and responsibilities that she needs to look after. I pay accordingly.

I like her and the service she provides. I am not looking for the cheapest helper, I am looking for the best one that suits me - and I'm willing to pay for what I get.
