Qatarisation a top priority ...
The Qatar Career Fair, held under the patronage of the Heir Apparent HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, will close this afternoon, after four days of presenting employment opportunities to eligible candidates in the country.
Co-organisers of the event included Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, Qatar Petroleum, Qatar University, and the Ministry of Labour.
Reiterating Qatar Petrochemical Company’s commitment to Qatarisation, an official said he was happy with the response his company received at the fair. Qapco is one of the sponsors of the event.
Board member and general manager of Qapco, Mohamed Yousef al-Mulla, said that Qapco employed many of last year’s applicants, noting that the Qatarisation in their company had reached about 70% in managerial positions, and 55% in other technical and administrative positions.
A spokesman for Seef Limited, a joint venture with 80% shares held by Qatar Petroleum (QP) and 20% by United Development Company (UDC), said Qatarisation was one of the priorities of the company.
General manager of Seef Limited, Ahmed Hitmi al-Hitmi said: “Our main aim is to recruit fresh technical school graduates, train and develop them efficiently to occupy technical positions.
“Our company has participated every year in the Qatar Career Fair and in this year’s fair, the process of recruitment has been speeded up with interviews held during the fair,” he explained, adding “offers of employment will be issued to those Qatari candidates with suitable academic qualifications and relevant professional experience.”
The Qatarisation Committee at Seef is chaired by the general manager who has the responsibility of promoting programmes in aid of Qatarisation at the company. “The eventual target is to employ Qatari nationals at all key positions at Seef Limited.”
Al-Hitmi also praised the efforts of the event’s organisers and emphasised his company’s commitment to Qatarisation.
Qatar Project Management (QPM) was another company to participate in the event over the past few days, with company officials attending to attract young Qatari potential employees.
A spokesperson explained that QPM interviewed and shortlisted potential candidates who will soon become part of the company’s 13 projects in 7 different countries around the world.
QPM’s chief administration officer, Fahad Zainal, said: “QPM seeks out opportunities to cultivate our local community by offering dynamic positions, that will not only shape the associates through our educational initiatives and on the job experience, but will also sculpt the Qatari landscape by supporting Qatar’s National 2030 Vision through our knowledge transfer that retains employees within the region.”

//But then again, there's a new breed of 'em who are not only able to have the big picture in mind but can also handle the details. It's good to be well-rounded, and not just round like a teddy bear.

Thats right, you just keep telling yourselves that.......in the meantime, we'll continue to run the country.
Khattak, pack in about 10 years. They need a fair bit of training. Vision 2030 ... by 2020, they should get somewhere, IF their attitude is right - humble and willing to learn. I believe they are, as long as others don't judge them to be rich and lazy and mentally challenged. It's like if you think of them positively (or negatively), they will live up to your expectations eventually. How long that "eventually" takes is another issue.

Excellent opportunities for training and building up the knowledge and capabilities so that the locals would not need to depend so much on expats. That's a good goal. Even some old fellas (ref to non-Qataris) need training still...
Whatever criticisms some people level at Qatarisation, actually is evident in their own countries too, but they are either hypocrites or they have blinkers on. We assume it's the latter.
"the process of recruitment has been speeded up with interviews held during the fair"
- Good practical innovation.
"A spokesperson explained that QPM interviewed and shortlisted potential candidates who will soon become part of the company’s 13 projects in 7 different countries around the world."
- International exposure is very good too - broadens minds. Nothing like learning from experience. Academic qualification is just a start. If one does nothing with it, it will be just a piece of paper.
