Job Satisfaction

For the moment let's put aside the my salary vs yours argument aside.

Instead let's on the professional aspect of our work.
What do you think of your work environment ? Are you satisfied with it? Please share the positive and negative aspect of the job here (aside from the salary).

To me, the big positive here is the diversity of the workforce. I could traverse one of the hall in my office and meet at least ten different nationalities, each with their own traits and characteristic.

On the other hand I see worrying signs as well. One of them is the tendency of 'not-to-own' a problem as well as unwillingness to take risk. The can-do attitude, going the extra mile and thinking outside the box is somewhat lacking here compared to other places that I've been working in. Given a task, many people's reaction will be 'oh, it is impossible, will take too long , I'll need extra staffs etc' instead of 'OK I'll give it a try and let see what happen'

Oh, please do not start nationality and ethnicity bashing here.
Cheers

Alhamdulillah Khawaga, happy for you.

My family found Doha as pretty good place to live as well. Of course they (and me) may change our opinion once we experience our first summer.

The biggest worry they have is for me to rashly tender my resignation because I didn't quite get the job satisfaction that I expected . Know what, I might just do that in my younger (and single) days but now with a family to take care of I think I'll give it some more time....

only about salary, but also career development, work satisfaction. but let us not be a hypocrite, money is also a big factor which most of the time influence our decision.

In this modern world, internet is the great equalizer.

I work six days a week and live in a hovel. But I love my job. The people I work with are a bunch of characters and always keep me laughing and keep me thinking. And it brought me to Doha, which is a rather nice place to live at this stage in my life (unmarried, no children). So I agree with AbuAmerican: masha' allah!

I know many good efficient people who either leave or worse give on work standards because there is no better way. There is no monitoring of performance as well. It's all wasta system.

Cockroach, at certain level, I believe the money part is no longer the major factor since I see the same thing happen for those relative well paid person (me included...sometimes).

I agree with you, the employment law where it is nigh-impossible to change job (why work hard since I'm stuck, can not prove my worth and work for other company type of thing) may be a big contributor.

Cheers

Sabrang every place has its work culture which highly depends on attitude of employers. If your employee thinks that he can make his profit maximum by making use of unfair sponsorship laws and substandard compensation, then the employee will also have lack of initiative and inefficiencies. Whom can you blame? Either or both are right or both are wrong.
