New-Nokia N8 goes official.
Nokia N8 goes official with 12MP camera and HD video
It's official - Nokia unveiled their new flagship, the Nokia N8. With 12MP camera and 720p video recording, the latest handset from the Finnish company is on track to becoming the new imaging champ in the mobile phone world.
The 28mm wide angle camera on the Nokia N8 is equipped with Carl Zeiss optics and a xenon flash. Nokia says that the image sensor "rivals those found in compact digital cameras". The camera can also capture 720p HD video at 25 frames per second and offers built-in video editing tools.
The Nokia N8 also features two different TV-out interfaces - the standard 3.5mm audio jack and a mini-HDMI port (a first for the GSM world). The Nokia N8 also features Dolby Digital Plus Surround Sound over the HDMI link.
The Nokia N8 offers up to 3 hours and 20 minutes of video capture or 7 hours of video playback (6 over HDMI) thanks to the 1200mAh battery. The talk time is impressive too - 12 hours, and the battery will last for 50 hours of music playback.
There's plenty of storage to store the videos - the Nokia N8 has 16GB of built-in memory and supports microSD cards up to 32GB. As for viewing things on the phones itself, the N8 comes with a 3.5" capacitive touchscreen with 16:9 aspect ratio with nHD resolution (360 x 640 pixels).
The Nokia N8 is connectivity champ - it is a true globetrotter with quad-band GSM/EDGE and five-band 3G. Yep, five bands - 850/900/1700/1900/2100. It has Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS with A-GPS (plus other positioning methods), microUSB with USB On-the-go and a built-in FM transmitter. Having mentioned GPS, the N8 will of course come with Ovi Maps for free voice-guided navigation.
The N8 is the first device that runs Symbian^3 and it also has support for the Qt cross-platform apps and UI framework that should allow development of apps that run on Symbian and MeeGo. It has multiple homescreens and is proficient in social networking. It also offers improved application and graphics performance.

Through my friend working in Nokia i came to know that N8 will be the most wanted once released..even am excited to go 4 it..its cheaper in Indaia-its 23000 RS [i.e QR 1700 ]
am not really a techie person but 12MP & lifetime nav & CWM is something to crave for. i just hope it doesnt have the usual Nokia snags coz for sure it's worth a ton!
well, if that's the case, then I'm definitely all for the N8!!
check out this comparison.. N8 is way better than N900....

Mjamille....it does hav a video calling option.... :)
i certainly hope so Happy Happy.. i don't like the N900 anyway, it looks so dull.. :)
....mjamille28, N8 seems to have lot more than N900.

i guess the price is too high. :-(
yeah Happy, maybe we'll find out soon... if they do have video call, it will be a good thing for me.. :)
...mjamille28, tell you the truth, I know nothing about N8. You can visit their website. I know how important video calls and MMSs for us, you have plenty of choices...
Happy Happy,.. :(
i was hoping the N8 would have the video call feature as it is not available in the N900....
mjamille28, no it doesn't support video calling. N900 looks more like a black brick, so unaesthetic.
flor, video call will be for my daughter when she goes back home..
it's really hard having a long-distant affair? LOL!
yeah, but does it support video call?

FriedUnicorn, just bought it for a gift last week...
Anyone interested can PM me.
No N 900 touch screen is not scratch res.u can put screen guard over it.
Screen is good, good resolution.though a bit small as compared to HTC screens.
Body is nice with dull finish (back only).no not scratch resistant, but it is diff to have scratches over the body if u treat it nice.
2000? wow! im definitely considering this one! im not sure if N900 touch screen is scratch resistant, i suppose they should put that feature in every touch screen phone... will definitely watch out for the N8... :)
Probably N8 will cost around QR 2000. Am not sure though. but we might have to wait till July – August for N8 local availability. And one more question about N900, how is the touch screen? Is N900 body scratch resistant ?
bleu, do u have any idea how unbelievable the price of the N8 is? thanks.. :)
LOL at confus3d... actually, Nokia innovates.
They produce the world's most advanced smartphones, with the ability to have one million songs in your pocket. N8 is their most advanced technology in a magical and revolutionary device at an unbelievable price.
(Sounds like something Steve Jobs would have said, if he was Nokia's CEO)
N8 looks slimmer than the N900 though, which is better for me...
mjamille28, it's ok. I think N900 doesn't have a repeat option for music, I think?
Happy Happy, that i don't know.. :)
well, if N8 does video call, i'll definitely consider ditching my current mobile...
mjamille28, I think N900 is bigger in size than your sister's size!
And do you know if she could set special ring tones for each caller?
@catsniper
N900 , good buy for the money.
all the advantages of a phone as well and can be used as a portable computer thats the Bonus.
Secondly if ur a Linux Freak and like programming then thats an Extra bonus for you!!!!!(u can use terminal in this phone)
Cons:-Low battery life , thats common for all smart phone,no captive touch on this one,no vid calls for .
Major advantage:-it is fast and responsive.
i have no clue how much the N8 would be marketed here,.. it sounds very promising, i was browsing around for the Sony Ericsson Vivaz last week, but now, i might consider the N8... let's hope we'll get update on the N8 soon.. :)
Thanks. Now I have to decide N900 or N8? Am puzzled. What do you suggest? Any idea about local market price for N8?
my sister uses N900, it seems to work fine...
Heard it got a bad battery operating time? is it so? Any N900 users here ?
This is what nokia does.
IT comes up wid the same model which other companies have.
Usually starts hot, at 1,000,000.
Then in 2 weeks, fades down to 3000.
Then starts depreciating.
Then gets real cheap a month before the newer model comes out, with many offers in the shops and newspapers.
if ever?
some CGC staff promoting their stuff
looking forward to when the N8 will be available here... :)
Nokia is coming up with great stuff..even i shifted from Sony Eric to Nokia.
Also check out N900 Maemo platform.

am not an iPhone fan, so i'd consider the N8 anytime.. :)
racism against i-phone
An iPhone has something like 0.8MP camera with a plastic lens ... Much better.
wow looks nice... i might have to think about changing back to Nokia in that case then...12 MP camera, nice..
