Job security for expats!! help
Hi there
my husband has got an interesting offer from an investment company in Qatar. we have two kids(10 and 5) but we have been warned for lack of job security for expats in Qatar.
is that true that companies easily replace foreigners with local? is that true that no one stays longer than 2 to maximum 3 years? As we have two kids mu husbamd job stability is very importany for us
Please help
Think about creating value instead of worrying about job security and be positive.
In this world there is no security, theres only opportunity!
Thanks to every one for the comments
What i meant by job security was being replaced by a local just because you are foreigner.i understand there is no job security in developed world
I am not worried about the cultural difference. We moved from France to the uk and we are currently living in Hong Kong so nothing could be shocking for us. but all these years my husband stayed with his company (a french bank)but now he has an offer from a Q-company
i am not worried about the school either since my kids and myself are moving to Qatar in a year not immediately.
Job security is higher in Qatar than the rest of the Gulf as there are fewer locals but of course nothing is forever.
Now the guy who said trust in God has got me thinking. The gulf is probably the most devoutly religious place on earth, yet several of the gulf countries have high unemployment. Does this mean God is punishing them or it's a test?
Hi Gazel you didnt mention that you are from which country? As if you are from USA or UK, then dont have any fear of job security your job will be 100% secure. Even if you are an Arab then also its fine.
But if you are an Asian then you can afford to have all kind of fears. All job insecurity, less salary, more work etc etc.
My intention is not to hurt any one's feeling so please dont panic on my opinion as its entirely my opinion.
If the offer is good and your husband is competent in his work then nothing is going to happen even though there is no job security here. There are thousands working here for more than 10, 15 or even 25 years in one job. As mentioned by another QLer there is no security for your life then how you are expecting job security. If the offer is good and your husband is confident to do his assigned duty go ahead.
@ gazel, you obviously wouldn't base your descision on what someone posts on an online forum, you asked for an opinion, what you're getting is multiple opinions plus some personal vendetta for good measure *wink*!...if you know someone like yourself that has lived or does live here, might be best to ask them...i say someone like yourself 'cos as is obvious, some people can't stand this place & are here purely for the money, some others think it's the best place on the planet, might have something to do with the fact that they haven't actually been to or lived in too many other places on the planet but that's a different issue!
gazel, There isn't any issue with job security. I have seen myself people who have been working here for decades. Do not pay heed to some losers' comments. If they are so upset from Qatar, why do they stay here? If it is a good offer, take it.
gadarene is jobless for many years and stays with his parents. He is leading sad life depending on his parents for every penny. He is trying to mislead you.
@ exiledsaint, LOL! nice one mate...*wink*!
Yeah God helps the unemployed and keeps people in jobs.... he should replace Ombama at the next election...
@ gazel, job security here is ZERO,didn't you think there was some catch to that fat,tax-free "interesting" package your husband was offered?!...it's not about being replaced by a local that's the only issue,if your husband doesn't kiss the right ass/es,he could just as well be replaced by someone who will...Oh & one more thing, since you mentioned your two little ones,be prepared to put them on a waiting list for a good or even decent school & wait indefinitely, could be upto a year so you might want to look up home schooling...
I'd also suggest trying out the nearest rally track & hone your skills before coming here, the driving here is like one big WRC rally
As for staying 2-3 years,it's more because a good number of expats can't take this place for more than that amount of time & even the tax-free money doesn't seem worth it after a point...I have a patient who's in the process of leaving, she's been here 10 years, says she would've gotten a lesser sentence for murder!!!...good luck...you'll need it...
job security is a global problem, just faith on GOD, if you got a good offer, make a agreement and dont think too much. just come and join. Remember dear, we never give life security so how we can give security for any thing.
job security is a thing of the past.........even in developed countries.
yep true..:)
Hate to say it but its true. Definately worrth coming out here to weigh up quality of family life, but you do live with the fear that any day could be your last working one. Just save for those rainy days.
Expatriates means any time replaceable
everyone is replaceable , however not all the jobs are being nationalised, it depends on the job and the offer.
No security. Absoluty nothing.
