UK Tier 1 (General) Visa

Hi All,

If anyone in QL have applied for the Tier 1 (General) UK visa, then I have the following question:

Does the maintenance funds must also cover your dependants (i.e. wife + kids), ALTHOUGH THEY ARE NOT PART OF THE APPLICATION AND THEY WILL NOT BE COMING WITH YOU?

That is, if you have a wife for example but she it NOT coming with you. Therefore, should the maintenance funds be 2800 + 1600, or only 2800?

(2800 GBP for the main applicant, and 1600 GBP for each dependant)

Thanks

Hello All,

- remo47: I just got a reply from the UK Border Agency informing me that you should secure funds for your dependants only if they will be joining you (i.e. they are

part of your Tier 1 application). If they are not accompanying you, then you should secure funds for yourself only. Anyways, thanks for the reply.

- kieron4u: I will be surprised if I actually manage to save any money in the UK. UK is surely one of the most expensive countries to live in. You are correct, thanks for your advice.

- drmana: On Feb 2010, the Australian government decided to cut-down the number of skilled migrants, although the Western world has already started recovering from the recession and countries, such as the UK, are actually starting to open up. Anyways, by late June they announced that whoever his/her application was not finalized then they will be "ceasing" it (yes, it is a terminology first used in the world of immigration, thanks for the Australians). Ceasing means "as if the application was not made in the first place", unlike rejection. The surprise is that even if you managed to collect all the needed points (i.e. above 120 points) and your application is actually a successful one, your application will be "ceased" ... which was my case! Anyways, my attorney told me that this is not legal and I shall wait for another couple of months to see what we shall do.

Can you imagine the inconvenience the Australian immigration department is causing for people like me: Waiting for THREE years, and they finanlly come up to you and say "well, sorry chap, but we have vanished your application as if it was not lodged from the start"!!!

If you don't believe me then I understand, because I wouldn't believe it, having a respectable immigration system as the Australian system doing something that unprofessional. Now, this "ceasing" thing has casued a havoc between the immigration department and the attorney's representing the immigrants.

Anyways, thanks for your replies.

Regards
