is 1300QR salary reasonable?
I've posted same question somewhere here but till now i didn't get any answer.
But then, help me guys, i want your suggestion or comments or whatever regarding the question posted above.
Well additional details. I was offered that amount above with free accommodation, free meals, medical care, transportation from point of hire and going back (philippines). By the way the position is guest service agent in sheraton doha. I'm from philippines with no experience in said position. is that a great deal or what?
i think this is all for now.
thank you guys in advance
maybe if i ever got the letter offer this monday, i will ask all those things you've pointed out. yeah I think it's not much to demand for some increase after some time, right? I had talked with people who had the same offer but never got an increase until after 2 years of their stay. Well sheraton is a nice hotel to worked with and i'm really after the experience because i can't get it in here. Good thing you've pointed out the exploitation thing, i thought it will be just normal since they will give me favor of training and a lot of stuff. Maybe i'll just make my self familiar with the labor code more. hehe
It's too low, Doha has a high cost of living. Demand for at least 2500 QR. You can save money and spend some on leisure activities. Good luck
the distinction between the cost and value applies to salary and worth as well....first find out what is your worth and then you will know if the salary is enough. Albeit, it is never enough.
to be paid 1300 QAR for training you is I think a clever move by Sheraton. But giving you that amount after three or six months (after probation in case you pass their proficiency requirement) is tantamount to exploitation.
But since you said that you have your relatives to look for you and if that money is not to support anybody back home (just for yourself and very little savings), go ahead, two years (usual first contract period) is a very fast time nowadays!
But think 100x before you finally decide! The temp here is going at 50 degrees centigrade and the water at the bathroom is BOILING hot! Lol!
all the perks you mentioned it is still too low.... especially if you will send money back home nothing will be left of you.... try to negotiate for more even if you are non-experience on this job.
I am with flor. It is not wise to come for a job here without any experience and relatives. The offer given by Sheraton is according to your experience. The benefits offered by them is ok but still the salary is low as you have no experience at all. Try to get some experience in Philippines and think of going to the Middle East.
the later words of yours sounds alarming and got me scared really, fact that i got nothing as for experience. But yes, i have my aunts, uncles and cousins there working and for sure they will have an eye for me.
thank you guys for taking time answering. I have to consider all of your suggestions.
I am afraid for you going here without an experience. Unless you have a relative who will take care of you here personally, then go ahead.
But if there's none, I would advise that you work for some experience before even thinking of going here in the Middle East! At your age and as per your profile, you won't survive "clean" here!
maybe because i'm a filipino. hehe i had read somewhere that it depends on the nationality of the employee. other than that, i don't know, aside from the fact that i got no experience.
answered straight by your prospective employer thru their letter offer or contract. But as a general rule, you can't transfer to another job if you have contract with them and getting a part-time job is also to be done at your own risk!
you can not do part time Job with out your sponsor permision. but you can get NOC if your company Agree.
demand at least fr 2500.. that is reasonable..
yeah, my aunt told me to make sure that they will give me an noc after i finished my contract. any way, Is it lawful to seek and transfer to another job even if i still have a contract with them? and how about part time jobs, is that possible?
500 USD and same benefits, you can try for at least two years! And knowing some people working there, they survive in that (meager) amount! Try to negotiate!
just ask them after One or Three moneth for raise in Salary, it is better to join as you said you have No experence. you will gain some experence.I am sure you will get rais after some time, if you have many choices and experence then you can negotiate but when No experence so just join, don't get confuse and lose the chance,
Sheraton Doha.... !!!!!!!!!!!! Hahaha.. How come they offer you such a low salary??
The decision is urs....
its really hard to negotiate without prior experience but theres no harm in asking. that salary they are giving you, you will have to live with that for the duration of your contract hope they will give you a raise. i dont know if you are aware that is difficult to transfer to another better paying job here without the NOC and believe me its really difficult to obtain one. i have to work for two years and really have to beg for the company to release me so chose your employer wisely.
I don't have yet the job offer, i'll be having it next week. about the bargain/negotiation thing, have any idea how i would do that? i don't have any experience so maybe they were expecting me to accept their offer even it's way too low. Sorry i'm really a newbie with everything so pls enlightened me :)
in a mud puddle it wil be fine..
U will get better offers
wait 4 that and bargain well
also read the offer letter well
best of luck
It is low BUT as you said - you have NO experience and you have all your meals/accomodation/transport/medical paid for. The only thing you'll be spending on is leisure activities, personal shopping and savings. Work out how much you would like to save or send home each month and see if the offered salary will cover that and leave spending money for you. There are people here surviving on much less.
thank you guys for your answers, it helped a lot with my decision making.
You can survive but but cann't live!
netter then nothing but Low
You have lots of answers here already:

i think its quite low...the cost of living here is too high you'd be surprised how much you pay for a cab when you convert it :( the benefits are standard and its fair but the basic is a bit low. anyways just try to save any amount would be sufficient if we know how to budget. good luck!
..sorry, honey.
1300 it's not enough!
