Hi, have just arrived in Doha, and looking for a volleyball team to join. I've played for years at a fairly high level- state and regional rep.

Are teams mixed or is there a guys and girls team?

I have been looking for this group since I came here in Doha last year and finally I found it...I've been playing long time ago but no continuous training for me...but maybe I can rate myself between 6-7...hopefully I can be part of this group...

MartaZu - as it stands now it's very tough to get people together from any level, guy or girl. I'd recommend that everyone attend an open gym once one can be put together, and then going from there.

It seems like we have a wide range of people interested in playing. Since we have a list of people that range within beginner levels to advance levels of volleyball, we will have an open gym night for two different categories. If you have played volleyball for a number of years and can compete by playing either middle, outside, rightside, or setter then, and/or you are a beginner who hasnt played to much or its been 10+ years since you have played then we will organize 1 big open gym for everyone split up into two levels. There will be a fee to cover cost for open gym but probably should be around 15 to 30 riyals a person. I will contact everyone when we find concrete dates and times for this open gym. Thank you,

crnkshft - I would bring anything extra that you can. I know my roommates and I want to start playing more so if you've played and have extra vballs to bring around that's always good for practicing even. It never hurts to have them.

thedoc87 + myself + 3rd roommate are all 8+ players and hoping to organize a few open gyms until it cools down

Here is a scale to tell you where you likely rate

1- don't know how to properly pass, set, or spike, unaware of rotation, and just hit the ball.

2- Can pass, but not able to set or spike, understand rotation, but not the use of three hits per side.

3- Can pass and hit, but not set, will tend to hit over on second hit if the chance is given, does not understand the competitive advantage of using 3 hits for control of the game.

4. Can pass, bump, set,and hit, but cannot "hit down", and maybe able to block.

5. Can Pass, Set, Hit, Block, and understands the difference between a 5/1, 6/2 or front setter setting.

6. Can Pass, Set, Hit, Block, and Set as a dedicated setter with basic knowledge of setting a 2,4,5.

7. Has advanced hitting skills,meaning hitting 1,2,3,4,5,10 can dig a hard driven ball, assists setter when they are need of help, and can scramble to get any hard driven ball or dink.

8. Can do all these things and played at the College Level, Can also jump serve with accuracy and speed, knows plays, and patterns.

9. Played as a starter at Division 1 level School, ie UCLA, USC, STANFORD, ASU.

10. PROFESSIONAL, not open, not AAA, an actual card carrying AVP player, or Olympic Athelete.

On this scale I am an 8.

I played 9 years during school time. My role is setter. I was in high school team and my school won the province champion title.

However, in current days, I only have 20% of the physical energy and I can jump half height as before.

Don't expect me as a pro player.

I am due out in mid August, an I want to play, do we need a good net and are high quality balls out there. Let me know, I can bring with me if I know ahead of time
