Youth caught for raping FB friend Mumbai
A 20-year-old student was arrested after he allegedly raped his Facebook friend in a Mumbai suburb.
The rapist was identified as 20-year-old Pankaj Mishra, a student of Bachelor of Management Studies. He was apprehended on Sunday at his Chembur residence in North East Mumbai after the17-year-old victim lodged a complaint of rape.
Pankaj and the victim, who is a first year student of a mass media course, study at Vivekanand College. The two became friends through the social networking site Facebook in the second week of June and later learnt that they were from the same college.
The two later met in college and became good friends. On one day, the victim told Mishra that she had to complete one project assigned by her professor in the class. The accused invited her to his home on July 20 saying he had done similar projects when he was in the first year and he could help her in completing it. She went to his house on that day.
The next day again, she went to Pankaj’s house but then the accused threatened her with a knife to stay back when she wanted to leave in the evening, the police said. Around 11.30 pm, Pankaj sexually abused her and let her go home the next day. The victim told her parents, who work in separate private firms, how the accused threatened her with a knife and sexually abused her. The victim lodged the complaint on Sunday.

Soniya, all our friends were a stranger before we met them. People should not be miser to use the brain they are storing in their head and make sensible decisions regarding people they meet and decide to befriend in life.

Lets not blame anyone here. Give both of them a benefit of doubt. Lets not call that boy rapist till proven guilty. Medical examination would reveal the truth. Lets not blame that girl as well. May have been consensual, may have been rape but whatever she must have been humiliated enough by now.
As of parents statement, well I would have been shocked if they had said otherwise.

Soniya, I won't call that girl stupid. We really don't know the level of their friendship. And trust is sometimes so easy to be given away! For sure there is a victim here. MAny wll say it's the girl and some will say it's the boy. Let justice takes it course!

Now the question is : No matter how important the project assignment was, that stupid girl shoudln't stay for so late in the night and that also with a boy..It's her mistake and she paid for it..

Girl's version:
In her statement to the police, the girl said, "We became friends through Facebook and met on July 19 and 20. I told him that I had a project to complete and he offered to help me. At 6.30 pm on July 21, we met at Saroj hotel in Chembur. Pankaj told me that we can work on the project at his residence as there was no one at his place. We went there by auto and started working."
"His maid was at home and left at 8 pm. Around 9.30, he went to have food and locked the door. He started misbehaving with me around 10.30 pm. I threatened to kill myself with a knife; he took the knife saying he would drop me home and then raped me at knifepoint. He locked me inside the room and then let me go to college in the morning."
The Other Side :
Tejnarayan Mishra, the accused's father, said, "The police have been forcing us to say that we were out of town on the day of the alleged rape. The truth is that we were at home and there is no way our son could have raped the girl at our residence."

Yes the parents weren't worried till the morning when their 17 yr old daughter didn't come back so she made an excuse to stay out whole night, 20 year old boy can't afford his own place so they waited for a night when nobody was home. Ah the story sounds awfully familiar ;)

Whatever the outcome of the case be I find the title of the news item very misleading & sensationalizing! To say "Mumbai college student held for raping Facebook friend" it seems like once again unnecessarily targeting FB in a criminal case cos after all though they originally met on FB the article states "The two later met in college and became good friends" so she was hardly just his FB friend,right? Perhaps it would have been more appropriate to say just "friend" or even "college friend"..but guess that wouldn't grab as much attention now =/
facebook should be banned in India as well...
the basic requirement is to monitor any sort of social website to full extent...

Hmmmm... me thinks she stayed out all night and thought they wouldn't catch her, but they did and now she's come up with this story....

Yes alot of men do think she is to blame for the whole incedent, The medical results will tell the tale, and the trial will decide, unless they all also blame a young girls inexperience in the world.

I don't think it's really fair to say she consented and then changed her mind without knowing anything else about the case. On the other hand, the investigation and trial will be very hard for her so if she she most likely would not press charges unless she was telling the truth and had faith in the system.

britexpat I have seen quite a few cases like this in India where the girl claims foul play and when put under serious questioning breaks down and admits consent. I stopped believing such stories after that. What was a 17 year old girl doing alone in the room of a 20 year old guy at 11:30 PM, She stayed overnight and returned home next morning. Throughout the night, she didn't get even one chance to escape??

There is nothing to suggest concentual sex.. If she is claiming rape, then surely it should be treated as rape..

ya right. Most likely scenario, they had consensual sex, the girl got upset over something or got scared (Indian girls aren't supposed to be screwing around at 17) and filed the case.
