What's the issue about 2 years 'ban period'?

When I left Qatar in 2007, people used to say one cannot come back in 2 years time unless the employer gives a waiver. Obviously no employer would let their grip off the authority bestowed on them :)

My question is: what is this all about? Is that correct that one has to wait for 2 years? Not that I am looking forward to a return but just curious.

wow...the responses are overwhelming. being in a completely different time zone when i came back this morning to check things out liked the way the information started flowing in. once it appeared the ban is for 3 years and then to ethics & unethics :)

i have no plans till now to return but just curious and having said that do agree it is unethical to restrict people to come back to the country in entirety. agreed that an employer spent money for mobilizing the person & then training him but they should try to get the return of it by mandating people to work with them for a certain period prior to quitting. isn't it naive to think that the skills learnt will get forgotten in 2 years time???

anyways, just to sum up i used to work for an O&G operator back in 2007 and now have been shortlisted for an interview by QP. again, just testing the water .

Last night I was discussing the possibilities of return with my family and came across this video on youtube. does this really happen still?

Hi flanostu. When did the ban become 3 yrs? I've been out the country for 2 yrs and will be returning for a new job with a new sponsor in 2 weeks. I hope this doesn't affect me.

LP true.

An educated manager will never keep an employee against his will.

dogsrus our friend worked 8 years in the company and now they terminate his contract and do not want to give him a NOC i think there should be a limit for this rule

And the problem is that many managers here can't read, WK.

if a sponsor has paid your ticket done all your papers, trained you, sorted accommodation, then it is his right to not release you to a competitor just because you found a better deal. i think it is a great way of protecting their interests.

by keeping you away for 2 years then any future job offer that you had will have been forgotten and then you are no threat to your previous employer.

i think the qatar authorities have it right. even if some think it unfair.

It depends on the company actually.if they are nice they can life the ban off.

at least in the professional fields. I think it is more of a problems with the unskilled or low skilled workers, and middle management. It's their way of supporting the greedy inclinations of individuals over the greater good of the country and those being sponsored.

good for all....the more one stays away from Qatar, the less the person would be inclined to come back :)

put simply it's their policy, it's now 3yrs so come back and enjoy.
