Do I need to change my residence visa to working visa to be able to work in Qatar?
Hi,
I am a Filipina, who recently got a job in Qatar under a residence visa, sponsored by me father. I have questions regarding proper visa in order to work there. Do I still need to change my residence visa to working visa? Are there any implications or disadvantages if I did? Because I was told by the Phil. Labor Attache that residence visa is still better than holding a working visa. Because if ever I will have problems with my employer I can immediately resign since they have no hold on me (a stated fact when someone possessed a residence visa). Thank you.
No need to change your visa into working visa. Yes, there are advantages and disadvantages. You can still work in a company only if the company will apply for a LABOR CARD for you to avoid any penalties in your side and the company. Demand your employer to apply for your Labor Card. All you need is to submit your authenticated NBI clearance with a stamp from the foreign ministry if im not mistaken.
I get different answer everytime I ask... I was told that changing sponsorship and changing visa is a different thing. My understanging is that if you're on a family sponsorship, the company will still have to apply for a work visa for you as there is a penalty for working without a valid work permit. This doesn't mean that you change your sponsorship - you're still on a family sponsorship. And because you were a local recruit (pressumably have RP already) the company would normally issue you with NOC if you resign.
Oh, can somebody clarify this finally? I searched on government web site and in the Qatar labour law and still no clarity.
