Hello Forum Members,

I have a question for all of the I.T Professionals working in Doha.

The question is: Are I.T Certifications valuable in Doha ? if so, which ones ?

Furthermore, if one does not have a degree but has experience and certifications can he still get a job even if the posting requires a diploma or degree ?

If the job posting requires a degree you must have that degree.

Whether you love it or hate it, Certification does allow us to prepare a subject in a structured way. I have been leading the capability development for a large telecom company with 45000 people in Singapore and I have more than 30 certifications to my credit in Network, Security, Voice, Wireless and Network Management. I have seen how the team i used to mentor has grown with certifications and good projects.

Moreover Although Qatar is a bit laggard in technology adoption in Enterprises compared to India and Western counterparts.

But today the trend has been to move towards specialization rather than generalization. So i do agree that CCNA and MCSE are somewhat basics or ABC but doing a system administration for Unix or SUN like SCSA, SCNA or doing a specialized CCNA for Wirless or CCNA Voice is always a better option.

MY opinon is that just go for CCNA.Networking had to much value here in i.t field and for help desk officer salary is minimum 3000 QR

Well IT is entirely different field ... First u need Qualification and maybe certifications for interview shortlisting ... But remember, u don't have skill or practical knowledge.. U will not even pass interview...

IT is a field where who works, can stay for longer period.. Otherwise, he/she can't survive... That's why Qatarization is not effecting IT departments over here... because one has to work in IT....

I never weigh candidates as per their certifications because I have seen lots of candidates with bunch of certification that didn't know their work... So therefore it all depends upon company to company...

Academic degrees qualify you for the job, Certifications certify ( or claim) that you have a working knowledge of the vendor product. Certifications without qualifications may not get you a decent job in a decent place.
