Bicycling through Doha

For the last few months I have been driving my mountain bike through Doha. I like it because I love to bike and it gets me where I need to go very fast.

I do bike pretty safe and I am aware that my bike does not have safety belts or air bags.

Since I am up close among the other traffic I do notice how bad some drivers are and how they disrespect other traffic participants.

Just today at a round about this guy turns right from the left hand lane so I had to break not to run into him with my bicycle and at another intersection a guy tried to turn left while he was in the right hand lane which caused some confusion with the guy who was in the left hand lane and wanted to go straight.

I was overtaken by a little van when I was cycling home, he honked at me when he passed me and started to turn right (while he was next to me) Since i didnt think he was able to go through me i had to brake and let him go.... what did he think??

Oww well, I just wish police would write more tickets for frantic driving and more people would take a bicycle.

Have a safe and happy Eid.

Take care and share the road.

Buying a bicycle to ride on the roads here... one need to buy coffin along with it...

...for heaven's sake people are not safe in their car on the road here... and you want to ply around on a bicycle...good...thats the stairway to heaven...

I brought my bicycle with me from overseas, but it is still packed away.

After seeing how some drivers have no respect for other road users, I have decided not to cycle here.

Maybe it is just a case of not seeing cyclists as they are not used to cyclists being on the roads.

Have a look at this video. It was used in the UK to alert drivers to always be aware of what is around them.

Take care while cycling.....I admire you for going out in the heat and roads of Qatar.

its a sad thing that this country has. Most of the people here needed an exercise due to obesity. Hoping that one day we can see more bikers and bike lanes aroud doha. Meanwhile, jeronb I suggest do your biking in safe places like aspire zone and wear protective device. Lets be physically fit and be healthy always. Happy Eid everyone.

Like I said... I proceed with alot of caution and make sure that I am visible. Also I stay away from C ring and do not run red lights or speed :).Also like Ibanez says defensive driving is the key.

Just for everybody.... Realize that the other guy or woman is on his way to his or her family ALSO.

Kinda funny that bicycles are for rent on the corniche but that cycling there is prohibited.

Take care

Thank your stars you are still alive. Biking is not a preferred option on Doha's roads.
