Car Rental In Doha

tripema
By tripema

Hi Everyone

I will be arriving in Doha in the next couple of weeks and will need to rent a car soon after I arrive. I was wondering if anyone knew how easy/difficult it is to do this and what would be the costs? Also names and contacts of rental companies.

I will be bringing with me a UK driving Licence and an international driving licence.

I will be needing a five door hatchback model, nothing too large or fancy and will be needing to rent for 3 or 4 months.

Any advice would be appreciated.

The fast and sporty British cars began to really take off when the Triumph came out with the TR2 in 1953. At the time Triumph produced some of the most sought after cars in the world. The United States fell in love with it and soon began seeking other British sports cars.car leasing :Autoweb have one of the most comprehensive car contract hire websites in the UK.

Try Al Muftah Rent A Car. Very Good, Friendly and Professional Service. Home or Office Delivery . You can also book vehicles using their website.. www.rentacardoha.com.

There are plenty Rent a Car companies in Doha. But You should be very care on selecting them. Alway prefer reputed companies or other company you should have some local contact..

Otherwise they will cheat you.. Never Trust them!..

I had some bad experience in PETRA Rent A Car..

I had tasted different in last 7 months.

Regency Fleet was good.. they give Toyota Camry for QAR 2450/- (it was limited offer). That was great and they will deliver the car any where in Doha and they will pick it also.

PETRA Rent a Car: Bad Expereince. The price was a little cheaper! Tida for 1900/- But they charged in my credit card for minor (tiny) scratch on rear bumber a QAR.2000/- without informing me. When I realized I contacted them, they are claiming it will cost that much for repair. I requested them that I will repair it from Nissan Service Centre, and they told its already repaired and showed a hand written quotation. But when I contacted Nissan Service Centre it has not been repaired there. Then, PETRA Rent a Car company person changed his way of talk with filling F**K languages. They didn't give any invoice for repair / proper quotation and made me to go there 5 times by saying this and that bla..bla. Bad and long story.. Just sharing not happen others!

Also when you give credit card slip in Commercial Bank's carbon copy they will wirite CVV number. I was opposing this one and they are telling this TRUST!!!.. Never Allow to note your Credit Card CVV number. This is great security threat!. Still they are continuing to other customer also..

Thier insurance excess damage amount is QAR.2000/-. Normally we will not notice this amount. You have to pay QAR.2000/- if accident is yours or accident caused by unknown party. Unknown party accident is normal here.

Insurance amount from most Rent a Car is QAR.1000/- and but from Thrifty it is only QAR.500/-. You should note this amount also before you finalize the deal.

Rayyan Rent A Car is cheap and best for only Nissan Sunny and Nissan Tida.

Star Flow Internation is also good one and flexible having Honda CRV, Civic, City.. Price is good.

Honda City: 1800-1900/- Civic: QAR.2100/-. Civic is very good one.

Thrifty is good option. Lancer QAR.1850/-

Car rental agencies primarily serve people who have a car that is temporarily out of reach or out of service, for example travelers who are out of town or owners of damaged or destroyed vehicles who are awaiting repair or insurance compensation.

I know I'm resurrecting an old thread.

Can anyone give a recommendation based on their recent experience of any recommended car rental company?

I'm looking to rent a small car (the like of Corolla) for a couple of week.

Ta!

I rented a car from Al Obaidly. Good prices, reasonable cars..from old to brand new. They are at the Sofitel. So far a good experience.

On the other hand, I dont recommend Petra. Not a pleasant experience with them at all. Rates look good at first, but they catch you at the end...

I have a colleague who has been driving on his Egyptian international license for last 3 months. He was even allowed to buy a car from the showroom on his international license. So no worries, i guess.

Some car rental companies will rent you a car without the bother and expense of a temp licence, provided you have an international driving permit.

They will allow you to drive on your IDP for up to 6 months, which should be plenty of time to get your RP and permanent licence.

I think Oasis rents cars without temp licence.

Welcome to Doha.

Yes you can have a temp licence without the RP. However, once you have the RP you must immediately convert it to a permanent licence.

Tripema, if you do decide to go the traffic department it shouldn't take you too long there. I had to go for an eye test on the top floor, but it was very quick. My colleague, who is a Brit, didn't have to undergo the eye test. Then you get a number and wait for it. I've been there twice (for both temporary and permanent license) and it never took me more than one hour each time. Good luck!

By Fatcat• 24 May 2008 16:14
Fatcat

tiger9p, you are very right, the temp license is only valid for 3 months from date of entry in the country. The only reason why I think it's worth getting it is because no one could give me a definite answer on the validity of the international license. Personally I thought QR180 was worth just in case I got in to an accident.

By the way, Rental car counter at the airport only offer daily rate. So, it will be much more expensive than renting a car outside with monthly rate.

Mahaba Map (Small Yellow map) is very good for directions around town. You can pick it up at Carrefour.

You are most welcome Tripema!

The best bet is to take taxi to Madina Khalifa. Try to get there early in the moring (7-7.30 a.m.) so that things can be done quickly.

Temporary license only valid for 3 months (If I remember correctly) and the price is the same like permanent license. So, I end up didn't get the temporary license cuz I just don't feel like spending the same amount of money for a license that only valid for 3 months rather than 5 years.

Have a nice trip to Doha...

It's located in Madina Khalifa, but I don't know how to give directions, as I simply searched for it in my GPS.

Tripema, just to be on the safe side go to the traffic department and get a temporary license. You don't need an RP to get one, it'll only cost you QR180 and it's done immediatelly.

All prices mentioned are very accurate. I would strongly recommend getting rent a car at airport. After 2 years here, I would consider that the best move I have made sence being here. Had your same creditials, got a car for a month, in the meanwhile looked for a car to buy. You definitely need a car in this city. I don't care if you pay a cab and you follow it to your place to stay. I beg you to rent a car at the airport.

Rules here change like the wind and the person behind the counter, well what they say could change day to day aswell, so get a car.

You can rent a car with your International Driving License. Legally you can drive with this license for 6 months after your first date of arrival in Doha.

But each rental car company has different policy. Some rental car company allow you to rent their car with Internatioal Driving License for 2 months, some for a few weeks. So, you must shop around for more detail.

Since, you are from the UK I would recommend you to wait for your company to issue you a letter to obtain a local Qatari Driving License. This letter will be in Arabic and you can obtain a new license on exchange basis. They will just look at your local UK license, give you eyes exam then you are done. Just pay the money and you will get the new Qatari license right away. With Qatari License you can rent a car from anywhere with less restrictions.

Qatari Driving License Documents Needed

1.Arabic Letter from your company

2.Passport copy with RP copy

3.Color photo (No white background) If you war glasses or contact lense, you must wear glass while taking picture.

4.Applicaiton Fee payby credit card or ATM card (No cash accepted)

5.Enjoy your new License

Goodluck in Doha!
