OK.. So a guy waves a knife.. Doesn't give up when told.. Lunges at the Officer and gets shot....

Whilst I am no supporter of heavy handed Plod. In this case , I believe, he got what was coming to him....

What say you ????????????????????????????

Police in Los Angels are appealing for calm after a second night of rioting followed the fatal shooting of a drunken knife-wielding Guatemalan labourer by a veteran of the force.

The rioting follows the death on Sunday afternoon of Manuel Jamines, 37, who was shot twice by a police officer near the city's MacArthur Park, a poor area packed with recent immigrants from Central America.

According to Chief Beck, the officers told Jamines in Spanish and English to put down the weapon but instead he raised the knife above his head and lunged at veteran officer Officer Frank Hernandez.

Eyewitness accounts from six civilians, nine police and two fire fighters indicate Hernandez fired twice 'in immediate defence of life,' said Chief Beck.

It's all too easy to use guns. The Cops should have shown more restraint

Sometimes the Police overacts. They need to be more restrained.

The police are racist, they shot him because he is hispanic. lol

The idiot had been told in English and his native language to put his weapon down by an officer of the law.....he can't listen, well, then he has to deal with the consequences.

baldrick,

if that is the matter, then none of us ever were anywhere when it comes to QL, so better we shut our mouth and switch off our lappies.

From initial reports...These officers had gone into a "hostile" area..where rioting was going on..nerves are on edge..he may be a trained officer..but he still human ..and would definitely fear for his life.

he asked a potential suspect to put down his weapon, instead this guy..attacks him...

I see your point. The same is beginning to happen in the UK..

There is a very fine line between reasonable force and deadly force..

Do you think that the riots occurred because an immigrant was shot or because the police used deadly force ..

published about the case it seems very confusing. Even the bystanders share mixed feelings. While some claim he was in fact armed and dangerous yet others claim he was simply drunk and would not have hurt anyone and that the police didn't need to have killed him. Allahu alim...gotta agree with baldrick..we certainly cannot judge the situation at all!

Did anyone look at the name of the officer?

Frank Hernandez.Hispanic name.

It is sad when anyone is killed, but would people be happier if one of the officers were killed?

If the suspect had not been rushing toward the officer with a knife, he would not be dead.

He and he alone was responsible for his death!

This guy lunged at the cop with a knife. For the police officer it was a choice between his life and that of the the other. Self defence.

BTW, none of us were there to pass judgment on what he could or couldn't have done!

Could have been slowed down with a shot in the leg instead of 2 fatal shots.

Police are trained to cope with such situations. The guy could've been shot in legs.
