The Power of the Internet & Forums !

How the Internet has changed our lives.. Like anything it can be used for good or bad.. As the following illustrates .. (Reminds me of Dracula and his suicide map in a way) :O(

Two strangers who gassed themselves in a suspected suicide pact met for the first time just hours earlier after making contact on the internet, police believe.

Truck driver Steve Lumb, 35, and Joanne Lee, 34, were found dead in a Vauxhall Astra parked alongside an area of overgrown wasteland on an industrial estate in Braintree, Essex on Monday.

The pair first made contact on an internet suicide forum.
Mr Lumb then drove 200 miles to Braintree to meet Ms Lee.
She is understood to have posted a message on a suicide forum pleading for a partner to end her life with.
Miss Lee, who had an eating disorder, wrote on the forum: 'I haven't the strength to do this alone. I'm not a cop, a cannibal or a murderer, just desperate. I ... want to do it ASAP.
'You should... be willing to pick me up when it is time to (kill myself).

'If you are *very* serious, please email me'.
Mr Lumb is believed to have contacted Miss Lee under his username.

At 2.45pm on Sunday he wrote a 'goodbye' message on an internet forum revealing his plans to kill himself.

He wrote: 'I'm just saying goodbye... take care everyone'.

The tragic case raises serious questions about the monitoring of websites where users openly discuss suicide.

GodFather.

Dating sites are very similar to sucide forums.

In both cases one is looking to commit sucide?

I am afraid I am a victim of one also..:(

in a free society, this is allowed isnt it?

and there are laws against it too. Problem is those in power would never know who's for real. Many complications can come in as a result which is why people may prefer to turn a blind eye. the world is getting careless!

in the first place why websites such as these permitted?

Paedophilia sites are being monitored and people prosecuted.

My point is that if we know that someone is going to take their own life, then shouldn't we intervene to stop it happening ?

Considering the fact you've got websites dedicated to pedophilia, Satan worship, anorexic pride, etc its hardly amazing to hear of one pro suicide. Should they be monitored? Of course..but how many will agree? and who will decide which websites should and shouldn't be monitored? What will be there criteria?Difficult chores!

why should they? Its two persons less to be served from the benefit fund isnt it?

Now here's a thought. We know that Big Brother and Plod monitor internet sites. So, could they have taken action to stop this happening ?

Why blame the net?

These idiots would have found another alternative way to end their lives.

:(

A person who decide to commit suicide will do it no matter what...you cant blame the internet for what they did..its not possible to take everythig serious on the net/forums!!

In a democracy you have the right to decide how you want to die.
