Technology and Invasion of Privacy..

A person kills himself because of another's intrusion into his private life.

I hate big brother and intrusion into our lives. This is an example when things go wrong. Hope the moron is jailed for a long term if found guilty..

A classmate who secretly filmed their fellow student having sex with a man leading to his suicide has been charged with invasion of privacy.

Tyler Clementi, 18, jumped from the George Washington Bridge into the Hudson River, which separates New York and New Jersey, USA a day after Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei streamed live footage over the internet of him having sex with a man.

Mr Ravi has been charged and bailed. Ms Wei has been released. It is alleged that on September 19, after giving Mr Clementi private use of their room, Mr Ravi activated his computer’s webcam before going to Ms Wei’s room nearby.

At the time Mr Ravi said on Twitter: “Roommate asked for the room till midnight. I went into molly’s room and turned on my webcam. I saw him making out with a dude. Yay.” It is alleged that Mr Ravi tried to repeat the process two days later and advertised the video feed on his Twitter page. Mr Clementi killed himself the following day.

Steven Goldstein, from the gay rights group Garden State Equality, said his death was a “hate crime”.

So far the only charges are for invasion of privacy, but the authorities are looking into whether to file hate-crime charges as well.

Doubt if they could manage to nail him for manslaughter, but I do think he deserves it.

He shouldn't get away so lightly. People really should stop poking their nose in others' private lives.

The sad thing is that Ravi is only being charged with invasion of privacy and transmitting the the data. Personaly, I think he should be charged with manslaughter.

Ravi livestreamed the video, tweeted his friends, and posted photos.

This incident has sparked national discussion in the US about cyberbullying where at least 4 teens have been bullied to death just in the month since the school year began.

Tyler Clementi was a shy but kind and well-liked young man, and a talented and accomplished musician.

Tragic.

Big Brother is the show that got us that fierce rivalry between the now-deceased Goody and Shilpa Shetty.

Not hate crime, but another form of cyber bullying I would say.

So they assume there is more to this than a suicide?.In any case, privacy is important for everyone.
