Well done to the justice system for once..........

British man pleads guilty to child sex charges in India
A British man has admitted to carrying out a series of sex offences against a 13-year-old girl in Goa, India.

Barry McCloud, 53, pleaded guilty to a range of charges at St Albans Crown Court last week, including raping a child under 13, administering stupefying drugs to his victim, and taking and possessing indecent photographs.

McCloud from Watford, Hertfodshire, had befriended the girl’s family on a visit to Goa in 2005, and used his position to access the victim on a number of occasions during the next two years.

Herfordshire police, who led the investigation with support from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) , Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) and Justice and Care, an Indian NGO, said that this was the first time that someone from Hertfordshire had been charged with sexually abusing a child outside of the UK.

It is understood that McCloud was charged under Section 72 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, which allows prosecutors to charge a Bitish citizen for committing crimes abroad if the crime is an offence both in the UK and the country where it is committed.

Tamsyn Wilcox, the district crown prosecutor, said: "“Barry McCloud abused the trust of a family living in extreme poverty, in Goa. He befriended and sponsored the eldest son, and he used his position of trust to gain access to one of the younger sisters, the victim.

"This case sends a strong message to those British citizens or residents who think that they can sexually abuse children whilst travelling abroad and that they will never face a prosecution in England and Wales.”

McCloud will be sentenced later this year.

The "agents" were all locals but most of the customers were not from India.

Chairboy I am not saying locals are pure and have no involvement in this but most of the customers are from abroad.

No I didn't read any report in any tabloid for this, I have been to some of the dark alleys where this take place and will gladly give you a tour next time you are in India.

I am not dragging the issue, if you look at all the pedophiles caught in our home country, almost all involves old foreigners (men) with young boys. Is that what?

Before you all take the high moral ground and condemn foreigners for sex crimes against children, all you are seeing and reading is the tip of an enormous iceberg that has its roots in locally based abuse. This type of tabloid sensationalism in the UK and USA is designed as a deterent against future potential perpetrators - and it works in the main. However, studies by CEOP and ECPAT point quite clearly to the fact that the punters in the cages of Falkland road in Bombay are Indian men, the clients in the whore house in Vasco de Gama in Goa are native Goan men and the slimeballs that walk the darkened streets looking for pre pubescent and teenage girls in Hikkaduwa in Sri Lanka arent westerners, they are local men - wihtout local men there would be no market for prostitution in these places - there simply arent emough sex tourists to go around. So get your facts straight before you come on here and start spouting off and condemning without knowing the first thing about the problem!! I have a 9 year old step daughter of Nepalee descent - when we walk around the Doha malls, it isnt the Westerners who are looking at her with longing and lust in their eyes believe me!!!

Its something so far none of the goverments have truly looked into. One should speak to the parents of these kids. They are so unrepentful!Like "being moralastic isn't going to feed us" attitude..As most of these kids are from impoverished fishermen families using the cash they earn from prostitution for education and food..Allahu Musta'an =(

All paedophiles need to be castrated with their manhood chopped off. That is the only justified punishment.

Sadly Goa and parts of Sri lanka are Hot Spots for paedophiles and sex tourists. There needs to be a concerted effort to stamp this out. The problem is corruption and money... :O(

Yes I agree..we have the same issue in Sri Lanka..sheesh! whats it about barmy holiday destinations attracting such sickos? In SL its heartwrenching to watch little urchins go hand in hand with tourists on the beaches and the police turning a blind eye!

Awaiting results of his sentence now..the sick beast deserves the maximum penalty. Is capital punishment ever handed out for such crimes? if not life in prison sounds just good. The cold and deceitful manner in which he carried out the crime rules out any chances of an insanity plee for sure!
