Karwa - just plain greedy!!

Ok, before I go any further, this thread doesnt apply to ALL karwa cab drivers but there IS an increasing trend. At some pick up points around the town - obviously those where there isnt a Supervisor/director marshalling the cabs and the punters, when you approach the driver and ask for a certain destination, instead of saying "yes" and starting the meter, the conversation goes something like this;-

Driver "How much are you going to give me?"
Punter "I will give you what is on the meter!!"
Driver "Sorry I cant take you, I need more money than that....."
When, as my wife then did, threaten them by reporting their number, they say "I dont care - I doesnt matter"!!

Not for me to offer up a judgement, this is merely an observation of whats going on.

I'm yet to experience a Karwa crook..lol. Seriously though yeah I know many people have had terrible experiences but not me. In fact I'm yet to meet a rotten karwa driver yet so to speak. the ones I've been with so far have been really courteous and helpful, Maashallah. very unlike the taxis in our country which was just messed up!

little cautious since corruption is very very contagious amongst individual

society will not be the same anymore due to not exist of "al`amru bil-ma'ruf wannahyu'anil-mun'kar"

- the society who knows this matter shall jump by buying cheap vehicle with no or low maintenance cost, safety is not in their thought anymore.

- new comer to this society who trapped with this corrupt behavior shall socialized this behavior to other, not knowing complex situation.

KARWA sucks.

1. Karwa is not operating the cars

2. those drivers are renting the cars for 265 QAR per 10 hours shift

3. They need to cover the expenses of 265, by sharing, paying and paying the gas, and then make some profit for their daily life,

4. if those guys were salary based then they would work on meter and receive tips,

5. Meter is informative only to give u average, still they are not making money out of it,

6.I'm since 2 weeks in qatar, and i use karwa 4 times a day, i asked 50 questions to the driver and i know how they are making their money.

sorry for the guy who is upset , but the life of those drivers is not as easy as u think.

Yes honda it is really tough to get a cab at Bus station unless you are going somewhere far..

I think Karwa needs to send their people out to catch taxis and see what is taking place then the taxis would know they would be fired if they tried to cheat people I guess tape recording the conversation would also work and number of vehicle. We used to have a reporter that did things like this and she showed a lot of corruption in many jobs.

I also face the same problem at Alfardan Bus station. If we want to hire a taxi, they wont come instead like private taxi operators they keep on calling UMMSAEED, ALKHOR, etc etc. Is this a service oriented Organization? No one to control them???

Was forced to take a Karwa cab from the Industrial area after dropping my car off @ the service centre...walked to a "Karwa stand" no less, the drivers openly negotiating fares & taking their passengers of choice...i tried sticking to "i'll pay what's on the meter" but soon realized that i'd be waiting all day...so gave in & took one of the cabs to Doha...there was a poor Bangladeshi boy going to the Bangladesh embassy & myself...the embassy was first on the route so he dropped the boy off & took 25 bucks from him, then dropped me off...for another 25...is Karwa going to do something about this? dream on...is it any use complaining?...continue dreaming...these drivers know NOTHING is going to happen to them, which is why they're so open about their scamming passengers...

I was walking from the Cambridge School towards Salwa Road. A Karwa taxi stopped next to me, and the driver asked me to come in. I said: "Thanks, I can walk." The driver said: "But I have some time before my next tour." So I boarded the car. At Salwa Road I got out. He did NOT ask me for any money.

The conversations I used to have were..

1.

Driver "Where do you want to go"

WK "Salwa Road"

Driver "Sorry I cant take you, My duty time is getting over"

No matter what time of the day it is..

WK " But this isn't a time for end of shift"

Driver- Shrugs his shoulders and drives away..

2.

Driver "You want bill?"

WK "Of course"

Driver "Forget this bill, just give me 15 QR"

WK "No I need the bill"

Driver "It's cheaper for you as well, what is your problem then"

WK "Just drive"
