Moving to Doha
Hello, I just got a nice offer from Al Jazeera English and I will be moving to Doha in the coming weeks from Canada....
I've done some research, but I'd love to hear from those who live in Qatar about life there...what should I expect? any fun things you can suggest would be great.....although, my job will probably keep me very busy, I'd love to be able to do some fun things every now and then...
And will my Canadian driver licence work? or should I get an International Driver's licence before I move?
Any information on this and any other help would be greatly appreciated....
Sincerely
J.
Thank you, I'm sorry about that, I couldn't remember 'Qatari Riyals' :) ....but thank you all for the great information, I'll definitely check out the links some of you sent me...truly appreciated.
It'll be a big change for me, but I'm quite excited and ready for the adventure...and I've heard great things about Doha, so looking forward to it.
much love.

James, what do u meant by QATARI DOLLARS?? Currency of QATAR is QATARI RIYALS..
Your offer is not bad at all..Considering your single status, it's more than enough for you to have leisure life in DOHA..
Yes, RP procedure takes atleast 1 month time..By that time, you have to manage with your company vehicle..However you can drive for 2weeks initially if u r holding CANADIAN license..Check the link below to know about the DRIVING and LICENSE issues in doha..

hello friend
its ok here to have fun and its having limitations also .. any way welcome to doha ...
Thank you so much for the information...
My package is around $364,000 (qatari dollars) per year....and I'm single....is that the average salary in Qatar? will I be to live comfortably? hopefully. :)
And my other question is what if the residence permit takes a long time, beyond my first two weeks, what will I do about the driver's licence? will it make a difference to have an international licence? let me know...
And lastly, I don't really know anyone in Doha, so I'm looking to make friends, if anyone's cool with that send me an e-mail [email protected]
thank you sincerely,
J.
Depends on what you consider fun. The driver's license is good for about 2 weeks, then you need a Qatar driver's license which you can't get until you have a residence permit. However, it is easy to get the Qatari license once the residency is obtained.
