Is my spelling getting worse?!

Hi all,

Don't know about you but I feel that my spelling skills are deteriorating! I see so much 'bad' spelling out there that when I write I'm not sure if my spelling is correct or not.

Does anyone else have the same feeling?

If English Spellings are a matter of concern, then how about the language Urdu/Hindi spoken here?

It's no big deal. Just install a dictionary software on your computer and check it out every time you're in doubt of your spelling.

As per your profile you are a young dentist. I think your memory is getting weak.

The spelling and grammar of many QLers are so bad and if you are spending a lot of time in QL I am sure your spelling and grammar will go to that level.

many people have spelling problems but i don't know why is the reason. we need to try to improve as much as we can but at the same time, we shouldn't worry too much about since the English themselves face the same issue!

Ohhh I know what you mean. But since my childhood I've always been rubbish in spelling. Thank God for spell check really!

Thankfully, I am not alone ;-). I used to be very confidant with my spellings earlier but of late I feel a bit tentative with words especially the longer ones. I think this is a result of sms and web culture that has become an integral part of our lifestyles. Specially the web is English language dominated and not everyone hooked up come from 'English as first language' background. The other reason may be something to do with the input device we use to post on the web, the keyboard. Not everyone is a touch typist but most web users use single finger for typing by locating the letter that is to be typed. So if a paragraph of say 150 words is to be posted, using one finger is not going to be easy and it takes some time as well. That's when shot cuts come into play which in turn plays in the readers subconscious mind.
