Another one on the wanted list
LONDON: In an embarrassing turn of events, Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapakse has been forced to cancel his proposed visit to Britain following fears that he might be arrested for alleged war crimes under British law.
Asked to comment on the cancellation, the British foreign office said, "The president's plans have changed." Several phone calls to the Sri Lankan high commission fetched only silence.
Under the principle of universal jurisdiction, war crimes and crimes against humanity can be prosecuted in Britain even if they were not committed in the UK.
Dictators should be made aware that they will not be able to get away with killing and murdering their own people just because they dont follow the same language, religion, way of living, etc
I know...strange it is! Perhaps the government of UK is unaware of all the oppression, plundering, mayhem, destruction, killings and terrorism, not just to the Sinhalese but to every ethnicity in SL including Tamils themselves, committed by the LTTE. Or is this to do with the Sarath Fonseka issue? Beats me!
I would say we both have bad records in giving in to the criminal element.
Leave it to us to support the LTTE over the actual government in power.
Well it makes me now wonder whether this guy wants to enter the UK and then seek political asylum himself as this guy has hurt and had a hand in the slaughter of so many of his countryman that he never knows when his time will come.
altaf hussain..another associate of altaf hussain who was also in UK on asylum imran farooq was killed recently in UK
altaf , general pervaiz musharf , and a lot of political leaders and ex-officials are in UK..altaf is now even a british passport holder
zainzedan
If i'm not mistaken, Altaf is one of them.
google for "on political asylum in UK" and keep adding words like "military" "politician" "political" "spy" etc before it to reveal more interesting examples of corrupt people on asylum in UK
Amazingly, General Augusto Pinochet was not a criminal, thats why he was well treated in UK.
It's actually more likely that he fears leaving the country for worrying about a coup taking place in his absence, someone stealing power when he is away,
and is also playing the 'everyone still hates Sri Lanka' card to get sympathy from his people.
I wouldn't trust anything this man says at all.
Do you think so?
Why did Idi Amin die in Saudi then?
I think my friend you are so wrong in that statement. We do a lot wrong...just like your country!
We are no better nor worse than you.
By the way before you criticise: did you mean 'haven' or heaven'?
UK is a heaven and known for giving asylum to criminals and corrupt leaders
They should completely ban all corrupt politicians to enter UK. They are the one who are supporting and even giving nationalities to the leaders having bad reports and criminal records in their country and are wanted by the courts.
In reality, politics is a very dirty business. We only capture and prosecute selectively.. :O)
I am sure LTTE guys can visit England freely and may get asylum there too..
