if she said "you will release him", the crocodile can say "wrong guess" and eat him.
but if the mother replied "you will eat him", then the crocodile can't eat him, beacuse then the mother's guess was right , thus he has to leave the child. [although this will mean that the mother's guess was wrong :) ]
