I like to visit Qatar every while.. i am coming with my husband and baby but when i wanted to rent a car at the airport they told me i had to pay 1000qr insurance upfront for only a rental of one day.. all the companies said this.. i was wondering if i look for rentals in a different location in doha would they ask for that? i would rather not take karwa,, reckless drivers and rude and inconsiderate for families with babies

For long term (more than a day) rentals, they will block it off your credit card (pre-authorise). Small time operators have higher accident insurance excess (Qr 2500) but lower rents. Big names like Hertz, Avis etc have lower excess (approx Qr. 1000) BUT higher rent cost. This money gets cut from your account if you are in an accident and don't have a police report, or the report states it was your fault.

If you are renting at the airport (and you're not a permanent resident of Qatar) it is possible they will ask u the money upfront.

All car rentals in Qatar will ask for the security amount either in cash or through credit card.

They should be able to block that amount off your credit card.

Seems Strange Rules by Rental firms. Do one thing, make real freindship with some locals here they will help you each time.....
