moving from dubai to doha...

Dear All,

I'll be relocating to doha in the next couple of weeks to start a great new job at QA HQ. I would greatly appreciate some ideas on ideal locations to rent a furnished 1 bed apartment. My housing allowance would be between 6-7k and ideally i would like to stay within that range.

I didnt get a chance to explore doha at all, i'd love to live in a high-rise apt but noticed there were mostly villas around the HQ? the corniche area looks lovely, its similar to where i live now, but what's up with the rent being at 10k-12k a month? i saw that on dubizzle.. are they kidding? and we thought dubai was nuts.. although rent has dropped dramatically here.. its easy to get a 6k apt around the beach and the palm now can you believe.. anyhow..

so any suggestions on apt areas within a descent range? would it be too far away from work? I would like to be around a busy area around other expats so i won't feel so isolated or homesick lol. i'm an arab/american female..

i'm a bit anxious, nervous, excited, but look forward to new changes in 2011.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Better place is in Doha Jadeed area at your case. Mostly QA crews is there with good facilities and security and very accessible.

Hi,

My name is Craig, i'm the MD of Mirage, a Real Estate Company here in Doha. I'd recommend you consider Najma or Mansoura as recommended by marycatherine. The area looks chaotic but locationn is good for your work and all amenities are close by (not much of a view though i'm afraid).

If you want something a little better located you could consider zig zag towers (Lagoon Plaza) in West Bay or The Pearl. You can just about get a 1 bed in both these developments but running costs are a little higher than other areas due to district cooling charges (similar to Dubai).

Take a look on our website mirageproperty.com or get in touch and i'll have one of my agents contact you.

Hope that helps.

Kind regards

Craig at Mirage

You might try looking in Najma or Mansoura which are both quite close to the airport and have quite a few newer buildings. While it looks like chaos in the interior streets at certain times of day it is an easy area to get a taxi and walk to the local corner store and small restaurants. There is a fair supermarket (Al Meera) in Mansoura and a Dasman Hypermarket and Family Food Centre close to the airport.

hello arielle and ant.. looks like we're all in the same lost boat! lol.. arielle, glad to hear that you like the company provided accomodations, it's probably the best way to get started and then when we discover the city a bit more, we're able to figure out the areas and what works.. for now i wont have my car, until i get settled in. maybe rent for the first month, and then i'll probably get it shipped over from dubai.. so many things to consider eeeek... i'm still staring at my luggage wondering what on earth i'm going to pack! best of luck, hopefully we'll be able to meet someday...

Hi, I am going to relocate to Doha soon! Like Roya and Arielle7475, I believe we are working for same company. I start looking for a studio or 1 bed room FF apt for myself and budget is around 7k. Since I don't drive, really want to find somewhere close to Airport. The Company suggests me to stay with the apt but they offer me a 3 bedroom which is too huge for myself! I really have no idea what Doha is!!! Any suggestion please? Thanks and looking forward to meeting you folks soon!

Welcome Roya.t:)...Ive also just moved to Doha week ago and joined QA. I chose the company provided accomodation as I do not know Doha at all... I guess this is the best option for single girls settling in Qatar...do u have this option??? the QA accomodation I got is very good and not far from the main office...that gives me time to know the city and decide later where I wanna stay....good luck and feel free to PM me.

thanks for all the feedback guys :) i'm on my own, so no family, and a FF 1 bedroom would be perfect as its probably too early for me to consider furnishing my own place until i feel settled in.

ace and ridris.. i love dubai and been here for 4 years. my decision on doha is based on a better career move, and better pay as the market here has been quite bad the past year in my design field. i'll definitely be visiting dubai often to see my family and friends, but i'm gonna have to make the most out of doha during my time here.

nayhr, lotus, and kumar.. i'll find out the exact work address, but i'm certain its in the main building where i interviewed.. yes close to the airport. i'll be able to stay at QA accommodations for 2 weeks until i sort out my living situation.

i'll check out the places mentioned, fingers crossed, thanks again :)

My advice to you also like the others to stay in Dubai, qatar is small country and you will not find lots of entertainments and nice environment like UAE , I lived in UAE for 7 years and in qatar this is my first and last year, I did not like this country, I am also an Arab - American and wish I did not relocate from UAE, any way if you need more advices you may write to me to [email protected]

Good luck

Hi,Welcome to Qatar, with 6-7k you can get well furnished apartment, and more over if you r looking for one bed room, 100 percent you can get it in pearl tower, Al-Mansura, Alsaad and many more places near to Airport, so dont worry its eaiser to find in a day a good accomodation, more over pearl tower got 1000of flat still vacent, More over QA HQ got their own apartments and you can ask for that also, have a nice time.

Welcome to Qatar !

I understand you gonna join Qatar airways and you will be in QA tower. well...cmon join in ! for the house rent etc...nayhr said it right that depends on location, rooms, and your needs ofcourse. QA HQ is just near the airport and corniche is not very far from it. keep looking here in classifieds you will find something nice. second thing is to come and live in a service apartment (depends on the size of your family) and then search for the place you like. you can get nice service apartment two bedroom in a better area for around 6-7k. and once you find the place you can shift accordingly. come over...a lot more for you to see around :)

Where is your job location? Your mentioning HQ, where is this? Kindly specify your job location, ask your company HR for the exact address, then we can help you. And are you living alone or with your family? Rent depends on the location and number of rooms you want. Your 6-7k allowance would fit to 2 -3 bedroom flat.
