Help making friends
Hey everybody, i've recently just joined as I will be moving to Doha at the end of the month. Now please don't take this wrong way, but after reading through a lot of the comments on this forum it sounds like it is difficult to make friends/ meet new people. Especially if you are young. Im really hoping this is not true as it has now started to cast doubts over my move. So my question is I am a 22 year old male (well il be 22 when I arrive), and just want to meet with local people. I enjoy playing football (the English version), as well as going to the gym (to lift weights) and i also box. SO is there much in the way of those kind of activities?
Hope to hear from you all, so you can put my mind at rest, and make me feel like im doing the right thing. :D
all this stuff :P
come and be on QL always...u will meet a lot here (online only)
cheers
Where's do you go to meet people? I am coming to Doha from Tripoli, Libya and let me tell you I was lonely as anything there. Had a few friends but am determined to tray and have an active social life.
Is there anywhere where you can go and mingle? Or is it a bunch of guys here, girls there, and families right this way stuff for expats?
well... except the fact that there is a long waiting list for a membership at the Rugby Club... we've been waiting since September haha
If you're Christian, there are some great churches around that have great friendly people. Even if you're not clubs around Doha are great. For example the Rugby Club near Doha College has a lot of people you can meat. A lot of them are English aswell? It may be a good starting point.
Good luck!
first rule: never give up!
second rule: never give up!
third rule: start over the first rule! :P
bro I had very hard times in ma first 3 months here (after a full-of-joy-city Istanbul), feelin like having depression and looking for prozac or smt.. then just met with new friends (I mean really friends) around and now almost every night we've been enjoying here..
just stay positive! then even hell may be a good place (at least it makes me feel better to think so:) )
good luck!

Hi thanks again for all the replies... Im pretty much open to anything. I just don't want home sickness to set in early on. Im sure il be ok though, if everyone is as friendly as the people on this forum.
welll....
you gained a new friend by posting this form.....
well thats me...
if u r interested v can b friends?
Thanks for the replies i will be out here working, but my colleagues are generally older with families already but they are nice people so I cant complain. Just it will be nice to hang about with people more of my own age and similar interests.
I've been here for a few weeks now, and especially if you're not working (I'm not), it is difficult to meet people. I've found that the best way to is to join clubs (I think QL has a couple) or volunteer with the few organizations that exist here. As far as activities go, I haven't been here long but it sounds like your best bet would be the gym :).
Hope this helps!
There's loads of us brits here around the same age. Send me a PM on here and I'll put you in touch with some of the expat football teams :)
it seems difficult at first, but you will make friends, just don't easily discouraged. especially if you're moving from the UK and you're young and single
firstly - you will have to leave the good old british 'don't take it the wrong way' behind - political correctness goes out of the window here! :o)
welcome to QL, and to Qatar soon... just stick around, you'll find lots of people here with the same interest as you..
