Adultery

Do they stone adulterers to death in Qatar? If so, is this punishment meted out to Qataris only, or is it applicable to expats as well? [Not that I intend to commit myself.]

It almost seems this topic discussion and others I read are trying to justify adultery in this part of the world because many of us are here working alone without our spouses. The only definition of adultery that matters is the one set by the affected spouse. I guess one can fool around while married and as long as you don’t get caught, it's OK I guess!! The worst part is that people in this forum actually openly talk about dating while married. As far as the societies are concerned, all cultures consider adultery as a serious offense. Maybe the legal system defines adultery differently where one can get away from the legal punishment. Seems there is confusion between polygamy and adultery here. Having 10 wives in an African tribe, 4 wives in Islam or multiple wives in some parts of Nevada are not the same as Adultery. The main difference is, the other spouse knows that you have a person of the opposite sex with whom you have a relationship. Try it and see if the definition fits....as long as the other spouse does not mind, it is not adultery.

in qatar, non-muslim expats are jailed for some months and then deported for life.

muslims, including expats may get lashed along with a jail term. muslim expats are deported finally for life.

having said that, i agree with expatgeezer that only the maids and drivers actually get cought in the act most of the times..

i know of a case in dubai when the local's son got the maid pregnant but the he managed to save his son by falsely accusing his driver infront of the police...the driver kept begging for the DNA tests to be done but somehow the tests were never done and he was deported after serving 3 months behind bars.

in some tribal cultures in africa, having as much as 10 wives is legal, and in some cultures earlier, sex slaves were legal. even at this age, in countries like germany, there are government registered prostitutes..

so, it all matters what's the definition of adultery in the society you are living in.

Unfortunately, it was us Christians who did the burning for books and witchcraft. And that was several hundr3ed years ago. I guess I believe the timing does matter. If it were going on today I would feel somewhat impelled to speak/act against it.

*The islamic punishment for adultery doesn't apply to people of other religions. Its a different punishment which i am not familiar with

*But if you are a Muslim it should apply to you no matter where you are from. And its not a straight death penalty, the Shariah judge looks into the matter and then he decides what to be done.

>>So if you are not married man or woman, you get 100 slashes,

>>if you are married then the punishment is death by stoning, but there are a few requirements for this to apply to you, like confessing and having at least four witnesses. This is not really more of a punishment but as a repentance for what you have done. I know this sounds really horrible, but if applied no adultery=no HIVs [ideally].

No stoning here and the punishment is applicable only if you get caught

By anonymous• 13 Jan 2011 07:40

Punishment only applies to the poor maids and drivers caught in the Sponsors house.

The rest of the adulterers are roaming the streets without the fear of the punishment.

Nothing like a few lashes to keep you going ...

Ofcourse, spanking can also serve a similar purpose- especially if carried out in the right sorroundings..

"applicable to expatriates as well? [Not that I intend to commit myself.]"

I was wondering about your query.

Nope, no stoning to death business. There is a proper legal system there. As an expat, if you get caught, you could be jailed and deported, maybe lashed in the process, depending...
