Driving incident - Should I be worried

I've just been driving and had a slight altercation with a Qatari man. I was on a yellow flashing light and thought it ok to move on at a round-about. It turns out this Qatari guy decided to keep going and move round to the next turn off. I'd already moved out onto the round-about and so caused him to slow down. After this mess was untangled he followed me, overtook me and and immediately stopped in the middle of the road blocking me, with 3 other cars deciding to box me in too. I got out to try and apologise to this guy, he wasn't having any of it, took a picture of my registration plate and then drove off.

Yes I made the mistake at the round-about, but there was no crash at all. Should I be worried? I tried to make ammends with this guy. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Don't worry. He might lodge a complaint, but nothing will come of it. The police generally blow these idiots off. At worse a small fine for 'wreckless driving'. If he was important, he would not need to follow you and take photos.

Next time, pull out your phone and take a picture of his registration plate, and tell him that you will be reporting him for dangerous driving. Then tell him that you work for your embassy, which means he can't touch you. Finally, tell him that if he makes trouble for you, you will submit his name for a no-fly terrorist watch list, based on the anti-Western comments you heard him make. I did this once when I found myself in a similar situation to yours with the guy actually claiming he would have me deported, and I have never seen such a change in attitude in all my life.

If he wants to play the game of 'it's his country', then fine. Just remind him of the world in which his country operates. Fight fire with fire, and just remember that he started it.

Don't worry too much on this but incidents like these sure does leave a qeasy stomach. If he did make a complaint you will see it on the MOI site ,The police here unbelivably is more sensible than these hot headed guys so most probably you will not hear from them . I f you haven't heared from them within 24hrs, chances are you never will, Good Luck!

There's a pretty good chance that you will have a traffic violation slap on you. Better check MOI.

Good luck & be extra careful next time.

Dont worry. They just do it to scare you. If he lodge a complain and fined you by police, check traffic violation on MOI web site. Im sure he cant do something like that.

At round abouts and other places, the flashing Amber signal light, means - stop, check if clear, then proceed.

But it does not apply for some people.

You will see some people just wiz past a red light if there are no cars ahead or crossing

Relax. Police get 100s of cases like this on weekly basis - I mean broken egos. Nothing to worry about because they will probably just ignore it as usual.

I agree with the above.

Whether right or wrong, it is their right here.

It is good that they did not damage your car or hurt you. They just tried to scare you, and if the guy was really serious, may be lodge a complaint at the police station.

I have had a few bad experiences and the fault is the Locals, but the police say "maybe you make girgir - anyway only small scratch you can repair, we will give you letter. " - what can you say about that.

Since you said any advice will be appreciated, let me tell you that Yellow is not Green :(

As for the guy, nothing serious will happen except maybe a fine but that's a remote possibility.
