Warning from the British Foreign Office
For the general information of QL'ers
Excerpt from updated http://www.fco.gov.uk website regarding Qatar:-
We advise British nationals in Qatar to maintain a high level of security awareness, particularly in public places. You should avoid large gatherings and demonstrations. We are aware of reports of a possible protest on Tuesday 15 March or Wednesday 16 March.
Reason??
Participants??
Venue??
Ah now I understand - the people who are managing the building of the new airport are in charge of the day of rage - oh well thats fine - it'll NEVER happen!!!
but the day keeps getting postponed. Guess they are not sure even about the day
Unless you put any money in the envelope you will not get an answer....
expatgeezer.....still waiting for FIFA to reply to my letter.
assholes!
Naah it has to be at the corniche.
Location?? I'm thinking Villagio area - lots of parking for the Beemers and Mercs, Porsche and LC's and they can go shopping at Armani when they get bored with being enraged........
Chairboy, will they be busing in Labourers to ensure they are sufficent numbers in the Stadium oops I mean in the protest! :)
Our best hope for a peaceful demo is if they make it an all ticket affair - then its guaranteed to be f++cked up!!!
A "raging" Qatari, I'm intrigued - what does that look like? I've seen lots of "raving" Qatari's, but never a "raging" one!!
Flanostu, I wonder if they will have riot police and dogs and horse to charge the protestors down like they did in the AFC final?
Got to stock up... on my Groceries...
and transfer most of the money home just in case ;)
yeah the protests are next week.....already stocking up the beer supplies.
May be British Foreign Office Should give out a warning in Saudi Arabia....
Qatar would be totally peaceful... :)
Apparently all their ferraris are in the garage for their annual check up so they cannot drive down the corniche to protest...
"Day of rage" yeah right!!!!! LMAO - the most that will happen is that the disenfranchised locals (who are they by the way)will get their drivers/house maids to march "in a rage" in lieu of them expending any unecessary energy ........
Exile..Spot on mate.. It will not happen here. They will crush any protest before it even starts in the name of Freedom of Speech..ooops..:)
Its related to the stupid facebook page someone put up saying that the Qataris should take to the streets in a day of rage. Ain't going to happen though...
Stand behind me ladies, I will protect you
Thanks chairboy, we received an email yesterday and thought it was a prank until we checked the website for ourselves. No matter how safe we think Qatar is, we should be on our guard.
Chairboy thanks for highlighting this. Will check the FCO website later.
If FCO has information about a possible protest March next week. I am surprised that none of the QLer's have pointed this out or have I missed a thread or two?
it's all here http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-living-abroad/travel-advice-by-country/middle-east-north-africa/qatar
There is an underlying threat from terrorism in Qatar. Attacks, although unlikely, could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers. See Safety and Security - Terrorism .

We wont be seeing British folks in the streets for a while then, just thinking about it makes me sad :-(
What about a nice cup of tea though :-)
shouldn't be posted in UK living group?
No coffee meets for a while then :(
@ 73 - not spreading rumours my friend, just passing on advice from a very credible source.
Please do not spread unnecessary rumors. Qatar is a very peaceful country and let us do not discuss these issues which breaks harmony.
Dont worry .. be happy
