I will return the question to you. If you have your family here with you in 1 apartment. Are you willing to share your apartment with other nationalities? Are you willing to leave on a flat with different culture? Different religion? Or whom you gonna trust first if you are an expat here? Isn't it will be first your same nationalities. Before you trust others, you will trust first those person you know, isn't it?

Well, i think because of the differences in Culture.

If i like for example will live with an Indian or Arab, they have practices that I won't be able to understand or relate to. So adjustment could be difficult. These could even be the cause for misunderstanding.

Unlike if I live with a feloow Filipino, there is very little adjustment because we have same cultural background.

I think that's basically it. But, honestly I don't see any problem in living with people of different nationalities. I look at it as an opportunity to learn new cultures and make friends :)

by the way, I'm a Filipino

theres no problem with me to live in a flat with other nationalities. but not on a same room.. lets face the truth that we have different preferences in terms of belief, culture, lifestyle.. even smell.. some food smells good to us but not to other nationalities and vice versa..

By my_kris2ffer• 23 Apr 2011 22:37

in my 8 yrs here in GCC countries, what i'd observed and base on my experienced that its not only filipino does not like to share flat with other nationalities, the reasons are; first is our food, each of nationalities have different taste and whether we like it or not its the fact that indians does not like the smell of filipino food and likewise for filipinos, second is the smell of the house, i'm not generalizing that all nationalities have a bad smell in their flat it just happened that we used different types of perfumes that have different sense of smell which for filipinos does not like the smell of perfumes of other nationalities and likewise for the others, and third is our culture, its not so easy to share flat with other nationalities that have different beliefs, etc. even if you both try to be nice, still you will fill uneasy sharing flat with other nationalities.

this is the fact that we need to accept, so for you guys don't be so pessimistic we pinoys just want to stay from any troubles and want to live peacefully.

"we don't like" is quite so pessimistic,

it's more of a matter of preferences.

with the differences of cultures, traditions and way of living of Filipinos from other nationalities, it's just like logical to opt for flatmates with same level of bearing.

we couldn't say that we're far better to live with and have more proper and cleaner surroundings because all of us deal with various things.

i used to live with my colleagues in an accommodation and they are Indians, and their cuisine may not that good smelling to Filipinos, but they as well, hated dried fish we Filipinos cook, so it's like vise-versa.

one scenario too, when our team was invited in some festival of the Pakistanis, and they live in one accommodation too, and you'll see how neat they keep their compound.

so, i don't want to sound hypocrite here, but i am just speaking as one of the Filipinos, we just prefer living with our fellow country men (kabayan) for convenience; like some posters have said.

we need not adjust more to the lifestyle of other nationalities nor force ourselves to adapt to a different etiquette and manner of living.

so the next time you see those signs, put yourselves into our shoes. :)

yeah.. i think i would agree with confused...

Yeah How about sharing with others. You could try out the sharing with Keralites for once and watch them spill over from their part of the room to your room and all over the passage way and free spaces inbetween.

By soltero• 23 Apr 2011 20:10

..where ever you see advertisements by them, saying only for kabayan..

..please, don't be surprised..kabayans are just more vocal and open about it..so others won't need to waste their time looking into the ads so they can spend their time more on the other ads..

..for all i know, other nationalities also have heavy preference for their own countrymen but are just doing it silently..and if i am not mistaken, the preference is not only for the same country but for those coming from the same province..

..live and let live...

By Good old joe• 23 Apr 2011 19:40
Good old joe

Well let them leave how they want and with whom they want. Maybe seeing the mallus leaving like flies in a room and with their shoes and other stinking and dirty stuff hanging all around the passage way and every free available space in the compound or building which is actually supposed to be shared by other tenats makes them avoid the others.

i dont mind working with other nationalities but in terms of living, we prefer to share it with our "kabayan"

in terms of work i don't mind working with other nationalities but with home/accomodation i'd prefer it living with my "kabayan" because as what other previous comments say, we prefer neat and nice homes/ environment..we prefer clean, nice smelling home/boardmates..we filipinos look after with each other, we share the same common interest and passions in life..hope im not being mean..

because we have different culture , food, languange and

many filipino dont like other filipino in same company based on my experience.

By slman• 23 Apr 2011 19:00

Yah.

They have always "Kabayan ONLY"

BUT have u all ever noticed the PRICES?

They have the lowest. Becouse they realy want to share THAN ONLY making money.

All other nationalities (acording to my experience)they give the balance renting posion with 75% total amount or more. so if the flat is 3000 sometimes the saring family should pay 2500around. still they have to obay owners rules... F*

Fedup of this culture.

HAT OFF TO Pilipinos..

THAN this question, you must post the Quetions "Y Philipin accomodations so less...?"

When other country people will learn lesson from them.

By wirehead• 23 Apr 2011 18:48

why don't you try asking people of your own nationality why they don't want to share their accommodation with their own countrymen?

By MR CONFUSED• 23 Apr 2011 18:32

MR CONFUSED

One reason is because most Filipino families in order to save they advertise the remaining rooms of their acommodation. Whereas (in my observation) other nationalities (like Indians as I know many of them) they dont want to share their flat and they prefer to live alone with their families only so its understandable that you seldom see accomodations for sharing Indians acommodation.

"I believe that if you cannot say anything GOOD about your neighbors, Don't say anything"

I'm not saying any negative things regarding other nationalities , I mean we can only achieve harmonious relationship with flatmates if we live with the same nationalities. So we can also speak same language and live same culture... I don't know about work, bec. It's OK for me to work with other nationalities. :-)

Hey @Qa-wife, so you means other nationalities are not clean, they don't communicate nicely, and they have bad smell? I m totally disappointed. and what about the jobs that you only like to share with your nationals not with other......

By anonymous• 23 Apr 2011 18:02

simply because most of Filipinos always maintain cleanliness, good communication relationship and avoids unpleasant smell in our flat! we can only achieve that if we also live with the same nationalities...

By anonymous• 23 Apr 2011 18:02

I m disagree with you, how could it not be hypothetical matter, you know alot of other nationals are searching even a bed space to get. But very hard to find because 80% of ads are being posted by Fillpinos saying only for kabayan, Why not other nationals. its a very serious matter, answere will be appreciated.

By Bharatdugyuts• 23 Apr 2011 17:59

This is common sense...why don't you ask yourself? do you like to be mix with other nationalities? with different food? different culture? different language? and so on and so forth......

not all phils.people think same way but I think the question is not much hypothetical.u can answer ur own question sir. thanks!

Guys, we have to raise this Question, it not only you, i am also in doubt from long time, where ever you see advertisements by them, saying only for kabayan(Filipinos), not only Flats also alot of things, like transportation, like jobs, etc that they only want to share with there own nationals. Any Pinoy ready this, please explain y?
