What right have they got?
Excerpt from am article in New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/05/02/world/asia/02reconstruct-capture-osama...
"Detective Work on Courier Led to Breakthrough on Bin Laden"
"The Qaeda leader’s body was flown to Afghanistan, the country where he made his fame fighting and killing Soviet troops during the 1980s. From there, American officials said, the body was buried at sea."
Fair enough they assassinated their enemy but my questions still remain: Why? What right has the US got to decide what to do with the dead body? Is she not supposed to return the body to the deceased family? Is this act in line with International Law?
people denying that he's dead....
Why on earth would the US lie about something this huge if he could pop up at any minute? That's just a little crazy...
So, either, he's alive and off somewhere making a new video of himself... his supporters are photoshopping an old one of him to release in a few days....
I suppose the only way to confirm he's really dead, will be once the bombs start detonating... then I suppose we will have confirmation;-p
Well its time the americans made Pakistan a part of their overseas territory alongwith afghanistan istead of waiting to ask for permissions and landing rights everytime they want to go after one of this terrorists hiding in that country.
the Pakistani government? Obviously the US felt they couldn't be trusted (and rightly so in my opinion based on where he was).
And they said all along that he was never in Pakistan. The problem with the Americans is they were bombing shadows in the mountains while the Pakistani goverment was hiding their most wanted guy in Pakistan in the lap of luxury.
Xena - you are the only sane voice here.
I thought OBL was a great Pakistani leader and chief of it's ISI. Pakistan should be mourning his death.
they could have used those stealth thingies which are undetectable except by Steven seagal ...
WK--I think you have hit the nail on the head. It's all about plausible deniability, as they say in US Senate hearings.
There was just an interview on BBC where it is claimed that it would have been impossible for US helicopters to penetrate that area without detection, especially given the location - close to military and nuclear establishments.
Well it is true. Maybe they are just claiming ignorance to make sure their own citizens don't get upset with them for allowing USA to conduct raids so openly. An average Pakistani is not very happy with US presence there to say the least.
Again lot of guessing involved.
WK--How do you know what they were or were not told? Surely you don't believe everything the Pakistani intelligence claims? After all, according to them, he was never in Pakistan.
Julian Assaaangeeee.....wer r u??????? hehe, i think wikileaks will come up wid somethin anytime soon ;)
Frenchieman they were not told about this particular operation.
Maybe they thought there is a mole inside the Pakistani government but I am just guessing here.
Probably his family back in Saudi Arabia didn't want him - they'd already disowned him and he'd been banished from the Kingdom years ago for his fanatical and extremist views.
since OBL is famous for his video messages... if one comes to light... we'll know its been a hoax....
Duh, in this case... don't you think the US would have been sure of their story before publishing it?
Yes, Nizins...
Obama - "We'll just tell the world we killed Osama"
Osama - "I am a live and well - look at the date of this newspaper"
Obama - " Oopss, April Fool's people... sorry.... *chuckle*
Some people just don't use their noggin... really...
Probably the same right OBL had to kill almost 3,000 Americans on their own soil, many of whom were never found for burial.
Mandi
Thankfully a much more respectful treatment of the bodies than what India did following the Mumbai attacks.
I couldn't agree more
they don't want to make a big thing of his funeral - likely to bring out the crazies and apparently he was disposed of in accordance with Islamic principles
ratheesh83
??????????
Not sure what you are asking stealth. Please explain.
FM - are you saying the US never knew all about it before?
They will do it.....No one isnt sure Osama is dead...all we believe is wat america told us.....d pics looked photoshoped....so i think this was just a political drama to regain the image of the president....and now dey r "disposing" the dead body, coz in real der isnt any...or if der is, its fake dat if someone sees it, d world will know the real story!!!!!!!!!
WK--are you really saying the Pakistani government had no idea what was going on, even though it was right next to its military officer training academy?
To the victor the spoils. It is not as if Bin Laden's operatives returned the bodies of the victims they captured killed. And I seriously doubt KSA, which had stripped him of his citizenship in 1991, would have allowed the body back in.
what about the bodies which were lost in 9/11...
return them first..
Whyteknight, you are quite right. But the least the could do was to return the body to his family.
is he dead ? few days later media will say he is alive having coffee with Obama
Before that, did they have the right to enter Pakistan and kill someone residing there without informing the Pakistan government?
If they had the right to do that then who cares for the dead body.
Laws (If there are any) are meant to be broken by those, who make it.
