Driving in Qatar

Hi,

Is it just me or are some drivers on the road really really rude...

The situation is even worse when it comes to road rage...some of them try 'scare tactics' (such as lane cutting, sudden braking after overtaking...) which are dumb and at times extremely dangerous...

Why...to prove a point to who?

Peace

Yes very true Corcaich, based on all points discussed here I can say that most crashes are attributed to driver error. Thankfully we are not them..........

Give someone who never learned to DRIVE, not just operate a car, a licence because he knew someone of influence.

Give him (usually Him) a two ton car and let him loose on the road. This gives a world beating death rate on the roads here in the Middle East. Give points for parking wrongly, none for speeding (the main cause of death) and you have the perfect recipe for fatal accidents. Sure, move out of the way, you will probably pass them later at the accident site!

Thanks Shaine and I agree we should not put our fate in the hands of other drivers. Hope one day we'll be able delete the reckless drivers from the scene whilst following the deffensive driving rules.

You know not everyone drives well. While going to work I always face aggressive drivers and inattentive drivers whom I will define as road hazards.

We can't control the actions of other drivers however learning defensive driving skills can help us avoid the dangers caused by other people's bad driving.

Part of staying in control is being aware of other drivers who go in FWD's

To Prez,i agree with you..that when a person is on the fast lane and wants to while away his time...and if he is delaying you, you have the freedom to ask him to move out of your way..but that is not it..

The bother is when the person behind the slow driver wants to 'SHOW WHO IS BOSS'...this is where the the problem is...

On the otherhand it is rude to delay other commuters just because you feel that you want to do 50 kmph on a 80 kmph road on the fast lane...

..i totally agree with PreZ..hope those who feel bad of other drivers think first if they're committing what PreZ have enumerated..

..at TB..no thread on Qatar Driving..?..i thought it was the opposite..as in too many posts have i seen for an adventure not really that unique..these things also happen elsewhere in major cities around the world...

you can bet i'll be pissed off..

..if you drive on the fast track at 50kmph on an 80kmph road

..u keep a highly 'safe' distance of 200meters from the car before you @50kmph speed

..if you see a green signal and slow down afraid of it turning red, istead of crossing

..i flash u to get out of my way and u ignore it

I never has a problem with the 'locals' as I respect the right of way..i move out for someone who is going fast ..i expect u to move out when i'm going fast

LEARN to DRIVE

hhahahhhahahaahhaahaa..... you know guys, I come from Lebanon where driving is not that of a good experience too, but believe me when I came here to Doha, the driving experience that I have faced with the fines that I have taken for tiny issues (in comparison to other reckless drivers that are not given fines) is one of the only adventurous experiences I will ever face... so I decided to laugh the heck out of me and enjoy this adventurous experience.. because believe me, it's an adventure that we have to take every day whether we like it or not. LOOOOOOOL

Wow!! I have never seen any threads on driving here in Qatar before. It's about time someone pointed out that Qatar's drivers are crazy.

Here in doha, less engine powered cars are not respected by Land Cruiser or any huge SUV's along the road. Whenever they are behind you move away from their way or else you will be treated like what you said above. Everyday driving going to my job, never miss to get upset by arrogant drivers. Car manufactures should not produce any car models more than 120kph speed..:)

It's true. You didn't read the leaflet to be respectful of local customs? Unfortunately these are some of them.
