IMF chief questioned over sex attack at New York hotel

New York: The leader of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and a possible candidate for president of France was pulled from an airplane moments before he was to fly to Paris and was being questioned Saturday by police in connection with the violent sexual assault of a hotel maid, police said.

Dominique Strauss-Kahn was taken off the Air France flight at John F. Kennedy International Airport by officers from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and turned over to police on Saturday afternoon.

"He's being arrested for a criminal sex act, attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment," Browne said. The 32-year-old woman told authorities that she entered Strauss-Kahn's suite at the luxury Sofitel hotel not far from Manhattan's Times Square at about 1pm Eastern time (1600 GMT) Saturday and he attacked her, Browne said.

She said she had been told to clean the spacious $3000-a-night-suite suite, which she had been told was empty. According to an account the woman provided to police, Strauss-Kahn emerged from the bathroom naked, chased her down a hallway and pulled her into a bedroom, where he began to sexually assault her.

She said she fought him off, then he dragged her into the bathroom, where he forced her to perform oral sex on him and tried to remove her underwear. The woman was able to break free again and escaped the room and told hotel staff what had happened, authorities said. They called police.

The NYPD discovered that he was at the airport and contacted Port Authority officials, who plucked Kahn from first class on the Air France flight that was scheduled to depart at 4:40 p.m. and was just about to leave the gate.

Its more or less like the IMF assists the leaders of the third world countries to screw their own poor and helpless people and the IMF guy was just putting into practice what he preaches at the New York hotel. This guys need to polish their tools and seek new ideas from time to time.

IMF chief and possible French presidential contender Dominique Strauss-Kahn was arrested and charged with an alleged sexual assault, including an attempted rape, on a hotel maid in New York City, police said on Sunday.

Browne said Strauss-Kahn was formally arrested at 2:15am (0615 GMT) on Sunday on charges of criminal sexual act, attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment.

According to New York state law, a criminal sexual act includes forcibly compelling someone to engage in oral sex. The offence carries a potential sentence of 15-20 years, the same as attempted rape. Unlawful imprisonment carries a potential sentence of three to five years.

The allegation will be a major worldwide embarrassment to the IMF, which has authorized billions of dollars in lending programs to troubled countries and has played a major role in the euro zone debt crisis.

After being removed from the aircraft's first-class section, he was taken to the police department's Special Victims Unit in Manhattan.

Well another class act affecting the financial market. Latest is that the maid was game for the big rich guy until she realized she could be loose her job for getting in bed with the IMF boss. Must be a nice experience for the IMF guy being locked in a filthy cell in New York in the evening from a US$ 3000 a day room at the plush hotel in the morning

The BBC reported it as "IMF head Strauss-Kahn charged over New York 'sex crime"

The Head gets caught trying to get Head!

On a serious note...what does this say, if true, about the state of the so called world governing bodies?

Looks like the rich guys chasing the poor guys/gals for real and with the ultimate aim of helping themselves. Goes on a lot everywhere. Just suprising that it goes unreported and this big rich guys think they deserve to get their hands on what they want for the charity they think they provide to the less well off countries and people. The police in new york really got a very big fish in their nets

Not the first time he's been caught with his pants down (literally).

In 2008 he had to apologize for 'activities' with a staffer.
