Best GCC work destination for expats?

The following article says that Dubai in recession still tops Doha as the preferred destination of expats?

http://www.emirates247.com/news/dubai-or-doha-which-is-a-better-job-mark...

What do you think? Does it depend on culture or profession?

Oman is difficult for expats now, they have a new rule for companies, for every non omani that is employed, an omani must also be employed too, making it difficult to recruit non omani's

Dubai all the way. I've lived there for 10 years and the rest don't come close to it.

I went around since 2000 in GGC and my preference are in order Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Oman and Qatar. In UAE you can easily work and really enjoy the life.

Ciao

Have lived in Abu Dhabi and have scanned almost all of Dubai...so now its Dubai for its cosmopolitan lifestyle and a geat nightlife with several places to go around on long drives at high speeds (one of my passions) and no exit permit required...can get lost at will even for a couple of days over the weekend...:)

I'm not so sure Oman would be that great. Yes, it's peaceful and beautiful, but there isn't much of an expat community or lifestyle from what I've seen. It reminds me of Doha 5 years ago. If you're the outdoorsy type then it would be great, but so is Dubai, you may live in the city, but Fujarah and Ajman and Ras Al Kaimah are just an hour away and offer many of the same things that Oman does.

I went to Saudi purely for the money.

Now, as I get older, I make choices , taking into account lifestyle and family. Like, Frenchieman, my choice now would be Oman - but i haven't been able to find a job there.

Having said that - I still believe that the majority of Expats make the choice on financial grounds.

Pilgram, Khattak, that's why I like Bahrain and Oman too. Locals driving taxis and working in their own bakala. They have great humility.

I haven't sacrificed my salary to come here....

Sure Brit, but a lot of expats have choices and are willing to make some sacrifice in salary for a preferred lifestyle--just as they do when weighing up job offers in different parts of their own countries.

Any answer to the OP with regard to your preference?

Expats go where their "needs" takes them..

Most work abroad for the money. Some , go for the lifestyle. Those going for the lifestyle are willing to compromise on financial returns for a better lifestyle.

I prefer Abu Dhabi :P

Honestly though, until I moved to the UAE I would have said Doha was better, that I hated Dubai and thought it was the "Disney World" of the Middle East.

Now that I live here I see the benefits of having Disney World 45 minutes up the road. I also see how much more relaxed the UAE is, how much harder the Emirati's work, how expats seem to have a bit more of a voice, and more importantly, how they actually allow their press some freedoms!

I'm definitely preferring the UAE.

Oman & Bahrain...for their friendlier people.

My view is that Qatar is OK, but I my favorite has been Oman. Tamer traffic, greener environment and generally friendlier people.
