Arabic Words for Saturday
By osamabawab •
Good Morning
Today many of us are tired coz of the weekend plans; some went to the beach, others went for shopping, so let’s learn some Arabic words related to weekend activities
Bahr = Sea = بحر
Shate’ = Beach = شاطئ
Tasawooq = Shopping = تسوّق
Mshy = Walking = مشي
Naom = Sleeping = نوم
Have a great time!
Thanks for clearing up the booza - boosa thing. lol
suhail shaker to answer your question, yes i practise my arabic everyday. I have 3 books. 1 for quickly writing in what i have learned, another with pages full of words and phrases in category. e.g. colours, shapes, sentences, things around the house. and another which i write just in arabic in, this 3rd book is great because i really have to concentrate on what i have written and it really helps with knowing how to correctly pronounce the word. e.g kha or k.
Keep the words coming.
rEzyz: but "okhrus" is rude word and it means "shut-up", so i prefer to use "oskut" only or "Tawakaf an alkalam" = "stop talking"
in place of oskut, one more word common is 'okhrus' which also means - stop talking or shut your mouth.
Is anybody memorizing these words or writing them down? Are you trying to practice them with others?
One more confusing thing is that you will find differences between Formal Arabic and colloquial Arabic. Also, you will find differences in the colloquial Arabic depending on the region, country, etc. Just like American English, Australian English, Caribbean English, etc.
Next to far eastern languages, I think that Arabic is one of the hardest languages to learn. Do not get me wrong, I as a native speaker love it. I find it very powerful and eloquent. Once you get into it, your ears get trained to spot a grammatical mistake. You will know if something doesn't sound right. It sort of rhymes.
Unfortunately, many government officials and TV hosts make stupid grammatical mistakes when they speak formal Arabic. Pathetic, to say the least.
Keep up the good work.

thank you! I'll be coming to Doha in a few months and this will come in handy. I find the best way of learning a new language is to get to know people and make mistakes. I have lived in SE Asia (Vietnam and Thailand) for 2.5 years and it has served me well...
Greatly appreciate all your efforts...shukran! What's ice cream in Arabic?
