Australian Passport for Baby Born in Qatar

By AussiePaki

Hi all, the question below is only for Australian citizens or Australian permanent residents currently living in Qatar.

Last week, I was blessed me with a baby boy. I am an Australian citizen. I have applied for baby's birth certificate at Hamad Hospital (although the baby was born at Al Ahli Hospital). After getting the birth certificate, I intend to apply for baby's Australian passport and Qatari Family Visa soon after that. Is there any Australian citizen on QL who has gone through the same process as me? If yes, please give me some tips of doing this process in the quickest and most convenient way. Thanks in anticipation.

Kind Regards

Hi Snipers, I asked a Aussie guy at work to do this favor for me as he knows me quite well. If you dont know any Aussie citizen who is in Qatar and can attest for you, then you can get your documents and baby's photo certified from Qatari Citizen (most probably someone in your sponsor's office). Best of Luck.

Hi AussiePaki,

Its good to hear that you are on the right track now. Just a quick one how did you go about getting Proof of identity declaration filled by an Australian Citizen in the form, let me know as i need to go through the same procedure in near future.

Thanks and Kind regards,

Hi Snipers, yes I'll apply for Australian citizenship by descent for my son tommorrow. Hopefully that'll take 2-3 weeks to process, after that I'll apply for his Australian passport (which can take upto 6 weeks) and then I have to get Qatar Family Residence Visa on his passport. So a long process for me to undergo. Hopefully things smoothly and quickly. Kind Regards

AussiePaki,

I am not sure what the correct procedure is but it will be helpful for you to give embassy a call and see what they say about it.

As i know that you may need to apply for Citizenship by Descent for your child first if you are an Australian and a Citizen of a different country as well. But please confirm these things with Embassy first as i will be going through the same situation in next few months and let me know as well.

Take care and congratulations to you.

Thanks a lot Shakstar and everyone else who helped. Just to let everyone know that I got the birth certificate. The rules must have changed because Hammad Hospital management issued me with the birth certificate in English. They also gave me the copy of birth certificate issued by Supreme Council of Health and told me that I can straightaway go to my embassy and apply for passport using the birth certificate authenticated by Supreme Council of Health; the great thing is that both certificates are in English; so all good hopefully.

Thanks so much everyone for their help. Kind Regards

This is Supreme Council of Health location

Go by 7am or otherwise be prepared to wait as it can be busy at the english birth certificate counter.

Thanks a lot Shakstar. Can you tell me where this fire-station roundabout is? I dont know too much about Doha but I have got Marhaba Map and Google Map. Can you tell me where it is? or directions of travel from Hammad Hospital? Thanks in anticipation.

The birth certificates are issued at the SCH (Supreme Council of Health) building, near the fire-station round about. There, you have the option of getting the official certificate issued in arabic or english. So just go to the english counter. And remember to make official copies of the certificate. 2 additional copies should be good.

Thanks all of you for your help. I am assuming that birth certificate from Hamad Hospital will be in Arabic language. Can anyone tell me where can I get official English translation so that Australian Embassy will happily accept it? Thanks in anticipation

1.) Congratulations.

2.) Take the Birth Certificate from the Concern Hospital.

3.) Go to the Australian Embassy with Child's Birth Certificate,Certificates Copies, Baby Photo for New PP as recomended by the Photographers of Qatar, Parents PP copies & better take Originals PP, to be on the Safe side for Representing, if Questioned.

4.) Depends how long your Embassy Make/ Handover the Baby Passport.

5.) Finally after the Duration take your Baby's PP.

6.) Enjoy

If the rules are same as in Kuwait, first thing to do is register the birth at the Aussie Embassy ASAP.
