Can't wait for him to appear in Bollywood or Hollywood..

Does this story not prove the theory that there is one law for the rich and another for the poor ??

Sachin Tendulkar, super God of cricket, has formally declared that he is an actor and not a cricketer. The excuse: he models for TV advertisements. In order to save tax of around Rs 2 crore ($465,000) on income derived from doing TV commercials, Tendulkar told the Income Tax tribunal that acting, not cricket, is his profession.

The tribunal accepted that he is an artist on the grounds that "he has to use his own skills, imagination and creativity in the commercials".

When the assessing officer asked Tendulkar to explain the nature of his profession, the master blaster submitted that "he is a popular model who acts in various commercials for endorsing products of various companies". He further stated that the income derived by him from 'acting' had been reflected as income from "business and profession" whereas income from playing cricket was reflected as "income from other sources" since he is a non-professional cricketer. Tendulkar explained that the claimed deduction in tax was from the exercise of his profession as an 'actor'.

vivme, yes, he wanted to import that ferrari, which he got as a gift, to india ,tax free....he is one of the most wealthy sportsmen in this world and yet dey do their best to cheat government and not pay taxes which they r supposed to, on the other hand, a common man, a govt employee, who earns a hundred times lesser salary than these guys are bound to pay to the last penny as taxes.... its a sad condition :(

Remember the (in)famous instance when Tendulkar was 'gifted' a Ferrari for equaling Sir Don's feat of 29 tons. Although it is a major achievement and one that made the country proud, it is a blotch on the man's personality in the first instance to apply for a waiver on the custom's duty.

As a professional cricketer, he gets paid to do what he does and he gets rewarded for being damn good at it; but I personally do not agree on him being given preferential treatment over the salary earning simpletons who have to eventually cough up his share of the tax adding to the already existing burden on their shoulders trying to make ends meet.

At least that's the excuse he might use once he's comments gets all the negative publicity. He can then say that not only is he an actor but a pro comedian to boot!

He is one humble person and was not expecting to lie to save RS. 2 crore only against his reputation. class and profession.

Hope there is some further clarification from the Little Master..

Cool...so the deal is give the people an unforgettable moment and you are entitled to steal crores or twist or get things twisted in your favor ... fantastic.. Can I do a naked run on Mumbai Chowpathy and I can get income tax rebate for life time ... guess my action would give unforgettable moments to some even if not a praiseworthy one but still something for them to remember.

Doesnt look like a cooked up story. Good to know that he is an actor...now people can stop comparing him with Bradman etc etc as they were cricketers...a part time cricketer cannot be put up in the same league...it would amount to insulting the real ones.

What a bloody liar!! Money makes some people really greedy. He was always known as a modest guy. How can the tribunal accept such a lie!
