Shop lures half-naked customers

Great gimmick.. Wonder if it would work with H&M in Villagio ? Can you think of a possible promotion here ?

Spanish label Desigual gave away free clothes to the first one hundred semi-clad shoppers to enter its store in Berlin as part of its summer promotion.

According to a store employee, police had to ask the shop on Berlin's busy Kurfuerstendamm boulevard to open its doors 30 minutes early after several hundred shoppers began queueing outside in their underwear.

A spokesperson said similar promotions were planned for stores in New York, Stockholm, London, Prague and Madrid.

People go to beaches with all around the world, and nobodyu cares. This is no different. Their place, their gimmick, their decision. as to people complaining/commenting, they can continue, if it directly affects them, financially, morally or whatever...

Ya, they have a sense of humour. And are tolerant.

oh and they are not accepting "anything"...just a few women in underwear in a shop for a few hours.

By stealth• 17 Jun 2011 19:20

if the society is willing to accept anything in the name of gimmick, then it means something doesnt it?

By nomerci• 17 Jun 2011 17:38

stealth, have you ever seen pictures of people running around on the streets in their underwear there? either in magazines, newspapers , movies, travel shows etc?

Quite frankly, I think not.

So, if a shop then does a sales gimmick, and clearly mentions that that is what it is, does that really make people from other cultures think that people always do that?

I am sorry, but if this is so, I must say that I would have to adjust my opinion of those people.

I would like to think that readjustment is not necessary.

nomerci - for an insider it may not be part of their culture, but for an outsider it reinforces the image. The same way that you have some of the so called high cultured people in QL who aims to run down whatever is not in their interest in the name of culture and religion.

MRST, i agree, it was not a particularly pretty picture :P

I rather prefer they keep on and cover what they got.

No stealth, it has nothing to do with culture. It is not customary for people in the West to go out in their underwear. It is a sales gimmick, plain and simple.

well thats culture for you.

Well, to recap..it happened in Germany, and may happen in other Western countries. It does not happen in more conservative countries, so all you folks who think it is "disgusting" be happy you don't live there and don't have to see it:)

happygolucky, lol, right on! ;)

hmmm...so it is fun to be half naked because the label is desirable and not cheap and also acceptable...cool, so now even bigger and costlier labels can ask people to come complete naked and that would be fun too....:)

BTW no doubt that it can happen only in West where, I have no doubt about, the mantra to make your point or get noticed seems to be 'shed clothes'. No wonders the brands are pricey as consumption of clothes seems to be too less....:)

fatimah, don't worry about over weight folks they will not dare anyway. they will ofcourse be there to watch those who dare. and there is no scarcity of those who take this as opportunity without caring for that free garment..

Nomercy, It doesn't and cannot happen even in my country..so, can't take it easily as something funny.

By nomerci• 17 Jun 2011 13:06

DK, it is just fun, nothing else...plus, Desigual is a desirable label, not cheap either.

See, some people in the West might think it stupid, most will see it as comical, so no need to be selfrighteously offended or putting people down for it.

This happened in the West, not in a Muslim or otherwise very conservative country.

Apparantly, the gimmick was to get media's attention and be conspicuous in the market overnight...but I wonder how the shoppers could stoop to this level just to get a garment free..? Is decency or elegance not even worth a few dollars?

By nomerci• 17 Jun 2011 12:49

lol, that;s funny!

Depends on the clothing store. I would be more likely to object if it was a store aimed at the elderly.

And given the physic of a lot of folks around I say "Thank God!"

As for a promo here..how about handing out free clothes to the fully clothed ladies?Free summer wear for niqaabis!
