Too Expensive to be Fit in Doha
Or any part of the middle east? Moved to Doha couple of weeks ago, lived in Saudi for a while, one thing I noticed is how ridiculously expensive the gym memberships/yoga classes (along with kickboxing for women, taebo, hiphop, etc.) are in both countries! For someone like me who generates an average monthly income, I find the rates here too expensive! Oh well, might just stick to the fire exit stairs then!
Such irony for countries with a lot of lazy overweight citizens.
Some of you might suggest, why not jog in Corniche under this very very hot weather? I did once but got annoyed with men in their (probably rented) corvettes who tried in vain to get our attention.
what does it mean? im confused..
At Khokhoy, yes you're right :) You're so good, you have guessed it right, I am very average, with an average income and came from a very poor country. I should spend few more years in Qatar before generating any opinion about the place at all :)
Relax everyone. The corvette comment was meant to be a joke, can't anyone take a joke nowadays?I just wanted to point out that fitness (including classess) should be MORE accessible to all, regardless of the gender, income or race. No need to be violent.Dressing to impress when working out- interesting!
I think most people here chose to have their maids diet and exercise for them. It's much easier that way and saves you any gym membership fees.
Everybody 'jogging' on the Corniche is trying to 'draw' attention. Which other reason could there be? The air is bad, the road is hard, and cars pollute the environment. There is 'clean' air in the desert!
@ OP...agree with you except for the 'rented corvettes' part which I assume was just an aside out of frustration. And for such obvious things you dont have to be living here for years, just keep your prejudices aside & you can see it.
you're probably afraid of getting yourself with the "Doha syndrome" wherein everyone coming to Qatar has no choice but to gain weight..
but you can do something for your self improvement. You can actually do cardio at home.. baqirz is correct.. eat lite foods during dinner.
redue your carb and calory intake, if yur swettooth desires for sweet substitute it with fruits......need mre help? i can be ur pesonnel coach :P
for an average someone like you, who is an average employee, who generates an average income and who is from an average poor country, I will not be surprised by your impression of Qatar after having spent an average short time;It will do good for you if you just read more than average of Qatar before writing anything and having conclussions
This country does have a LOT of overweight & generally unhealthy citizens, not to mention amongst the highest diabetes rates on the planet,it's not rocket science & one doesn't have to live here too long to figure that out but no, sorellcuerra, those corvettes aren't rented!,half of them are most likely bought on bank loans which they've defaulted on & which the Govt. will eventually pay to the bank but no,they're not rented!...ANY country where citizens(& the expats who blindly follow it!) stop & honk their car outside MOST grocery stores in the country because they're too lazy to walk the 4 steps from their car to the store is bound to have unhealthy/overweight people...often noticing the little things does give one a fairly good idea of the bigger picture...& yes,,gym & health club membership are in fact more expensive here compared to a lot of other places...
You do not need a gym to be fit and slim - eat well and exercise at home. such irony for countries with a lot of lazy overweight citizens. good thing my boss dont read QL much or else he would be offended if someone would say that his corvette is/was rented. But will tell him to use his Maserati for the meantime...lolKidding aside, its not nice for someone "who generates an average monthly income" and has been staying in Qatar for a couple of weeks.... to say AND CRITICIZE the citizens of the host country of of being LAZY & OVERWEIGHT.coz it's either the OP is racist or just an SNOB...My opinion...you don't like it? BITE ME!
check aspire, nice classes and cheap rates
