will our UK TV's work in Doha?
Hi!
Just getting all our goods ready to be shipped across to Doha - quick question... will our UK TV's work over in Doha??
They're good quality LCD TV's, and we'd like to take them if they'll work - but no point getting them shipped all the way over to Qatar if they're going to be of no use!
They are all pretty new (less than 5 years old) - and PAL format - it says the requirements for them are:
AC 100-240v, 50/60Hz 1.2A (which, to be honest doesn't mean that much to me!)
Have any UK expats here shipped their TV's over, and did they work ok?
Thanks for any help!
Plug sockets are Standard UK. TV is generally by Satellite so the TV works via the Scart lead input, your accomodation should already have a dish. You will need a sattelite decoder, for limited choice of English language channels you can by a box for about 40 quid from the supermarket and get CNN, BBC World and a number of free movie chanels. For a better choice you need a subscription, for instance one of the the Mozaic packages from QTel.http://www.qtel.qa/QODPPortal/portal/CONSUMER_ENTERTAINMENT_EN
We shipped our televisions out and our Sky digi box thingy - they all work here.
Not so sure about new places because we live on an oldish compound and all our sockets are British standard - but even if your house/flat has two pin sockets- adapater plugs are cheap over here.
The plugs sockets here are British, not American.
Yes all UK white goods work here. Same power frequency and voltage. Only the plug pins here are american standard (flat), but for that u can pick up a adaptor plug here.
Personally we've never bothered shipping out much at all, well nothing actually, it just costs a bomb and then you'll want to bring it all back again. We found it cheaper to go for fully furnished which makes life easier when you want to get out. Even if you buy all your goods you'll get nothing for it when you come to sell as people here are real tight a*sed.
