Bhopal beats Dehli in first Indian SlutWalk
For those of you who are following the related threads and are interested in this important topic:
Bhopal does a 'SlutWalk' ahead of Delhi
New Delhi: While Delhi prepares for its own version of the SlutWalk, Bhopal has taken it a step ahead and actually put it to action. The city launched its own SlutWalk – Besharmi Morcha Bhopal – The PrideStride for Women - on July 17th, with an enthusiastic contingent of around hundred fifty participants on its maiden walk that took placed on a rain washed Sunday afternoon from Nutan College to AICUF Ashram where an open discussion took place. The organisers of the Bhopal leg of the SlutWalk were college students - Ayush Dixit, Radhika Shingwekar, Swati Singh Baghel, Arunima Tiwari and Kshitij Mishra. The group worked hard on Facebook and Google+ to set the wheels in motion. Garnering almost 5500 plus RSVPs on their Facebook event page and a congratulatory message from the Home minister – they were optimistic about the turn out. Though only a fragment of the people who 'liked' the cause turned up – the organisers feel that it was a good start to the movement they have set off. It doesn't "seem", i am Indian...now,please point out to me where i said a woman is safer in Delhi than in Doha or wherever else for that matter?...quite clearly you didn't get it,so allow me to rephrase,if the true statistics were ever compiled & revealed, DOHA would rate up there along with DELHI & all the other places that they do have statistics for...India has a long way to go in terms of being safe for women no question about it but at least the truth is out there for people to see & women are doing something about fighting for their rights UNLIKE this region where they (foolishly) think that not revealing true statistics & the extent of crimes against women will make people actually believe that none of it happens...i mean seriously, how stupid do they think people are???...oh wait...:) agree to disagree then...good day!...
"..........if the true statistics were revealed,........."On seeing your profile it seems you are from India - now tell me frankly - are women more safe in Delhi or in Doha ??You are creating a false picture in your mind based upon your imagination which is fuelled by personal bias. - but "Even I agree, we’re at two ends on understanding things, so I take excuse of not explaining, it’s anyway futile". -:)

thank U gadarene, U made my day.
@ Insanity, quite clearly you have absolutely no clue as to what REALLY happens in the middle east in terms of women being raped & sexually assaulted...if the true statistics were revealed,i think most people AWARE of the reality would agree that it would rank up there amongst the highest in the world,no question about it...
Insanity, just reading your hypothesis on why UAE/Qatar has less rape cases, I avoided responding on your comment on slut walk (which you made on my earlier post). Ideally you’d have included other countries too, possibly some open societies, if any, for comparison like Egypt, Bangladesh, Somalia etc not only UAE/Qatar. (it’s cherry picking!)
Even I agree, we’re at two ends on understanding things, so I take excuse of not explaining, it’s anyway futile.
"......the marchers in Bhopal were wrapped in more cloth than used by many here, So...." Thsts what I was saying in my very first post - even the organizers/champions of the cause dont have the guts to practise what they want to preach others. Also, they did not have the courage to translate the word slut in hindi (they named it as besharmi which is shamelessness).
insanity reminds me of Gandhari...:) BTW how does one dress like a slut...the marchers in Bhopal were wrapped in more cloth than used by many here, So.
"Secondly - if every women wore hijab still rape wont stop is a weak argument - similar to saying that even if you lock your house there are still chances of theft OR like even if you driive with utmost caution there is still chances of accident."If all women wore niqab rape WON"T stop. If everyone locked there doors there would still be theft, theft WON'T stop. If everyone drove with utmost caution there would still be accidents, accidents WON'T stop. That's not a weak argument, that's fact.As for rape rates in the ME, we don't even know what they are as most aren't reported and those that are aren't recorded. Given how many women I know here who have been sexually assaulted, I would say the rape rates are A LOT higher than anyone is willing to admit.
Hope the girls in DELHI feels much more secure and safer than any other states of INDIA...
@ insanity007,we are @ two opposite ends of the spectrum on this one my friend, best to leave it be...you have your opinion,i have mine & we agree to disagree...
"....God made humans different from animals by giving them a brain to think & analyse & that includes the ability to realize that the sight of "meat" in front of them does NOT automatically mean it is to be "eaten"...."Very true but God has also given humans a brain to realize that not all people can think sensibly at all times otherwise acccidents wont happen, people would never fight with each other, there would be no crime at all in the entire world.God has given human beings intelligence that he knows the difference between his belongings and someone elses belongings - in that case there should be no need to lock your house or your car - but all of us take this precaution. why ??When we are so much concerned about our material stuff shouldnt our women be more concerned about their self respect and avoid any chance of harrasment from immoral people by taking precaution of being clothed conservatively ??
"...an attempt by women/society in general to bring awareness that Women who dress 'less' (or non-conservatively) are NO SLUTs....."Attempt is being made by women who are sluts and dress like sluts to make others aware that they are not slutsIn this case the exercise is futileORAttempt is being made by women who are not sluts but dress like sluts to make others aware that they are not slutsIn this case better option is not to dress like a slut instead of telling the whole world that though she is dressed like slut she is not a slut. Anyways action speaks louder than wordsORAttempt is being made by women who are neither sluts nor dress like sluts to make others aware that they are not slutsIn this case the entire exercise is unnecessary..
I know that not all are muslims and many wont agree to what I was saying....however being a muslim I have firm belief that islam has prescribed the right solution for mankind and it was my opinion on this matter.Secondly - if every women wore hijab still rape wont stop is a weak argument - similar to saying that even if you lock your house there are still chances of theft OR like even if you driive with utmost caution there is still chances of accident.Lastly - let us look at the statistics - I am from India and I have been in UAE and currently in Qatar and I can say that the Islamic culture/laws prevalent in these countries has indeed stopped crimes against women to almost negligible levels If compared with India or for that matter even US and other western countries. We can keep on debating on this subject for our entire lives but better would be to see the end result of skewed thinking which has plagued the western minds and also influencing the entire world...
JL, no, not your bad!, you're right; women (or men even) should not be raped AT ALL. but fact is from the time immemorial such heinous acts are happening and no magic wand could be find to FULLY stop it (incl religious/social/admn laws et al.) This (slut walk stuff) is just another effort by some section of society to educate people.
and i concluded, women should not be raped in any condition, not knowing that the slut walk only meant for ultra modern . my bad :((
JL, no that wasn't offensive as such. this thread was about slut walk (an attempt by women/society in general to bring awareness that Women who dress 'less' (or non-conservatively) are NO SLUTs.
refering TOI on some incidents related to rapes wasn't warranted at all in my opinion...on a lighter side, "K" word is sensitive to all of us , you know it well :)
latest on Slut walk (in Delhi)-
'Delhi more conservative than Bhopal'
Not even 500 people turned up for the much-awaited Slut Walk, and most of them were media personnel
(ref-http://timesofindia.hotklix.com/link/News/India/Slut-walk-flops-in-Delhi)
paintherwhat was offensive, if i'd asked a similar protest for those living in other parts of the same country? Don't they have the right?
John Lalay, (on your TOI references)- when you point a finger to anyone, you also point three fingers to yourself and a thumb up. Now you want me to tell what's meaning of being 3 or 3 times worse?
Ramadan Kareem :)
Not everyone is Muslim insanity, so those rules don't apply to everyone. And even if every woman in the world wore niqab, there would still be rape and harrassment.
Slut has been translated to Besharmi in Hindi by the event organizers as in "SlutWalk – Besharmi Morcha".However besharmi is a hindi word for shamelessness. It is not a synonymn for Slut.So having a slutwalk parade in India in a place where majority dont understand the meaning of slut and renaming it to besharmi - seems that even the organizers did not have enough guts to practise what they preach.ISLAM is very clear on this subject:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islam_and_clothingO Prophet! Tell thy wives and thy daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them. That will be better, so that they may be recognized and not harassed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful.—Sura 33 (Al-Ahzab), ayah 59, Qur'anWhen our creator has prescribed for us the proper dresscode for both men and women, he has even specifed that this will prevent them from being harrassed. We can never succeed to prevent harrassment of women if we go against this command, because god has prescribed this code for our benefit. However, Islam asks men to lower their gaze and not stare at women even if they are dressed improperly.Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty: that will make for greater purity for them: And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.Sura 24 (An-Nur), ayat 30-31, Qur'an
One who judges people by their clothes must be nuts! He deserves to be cheated!
and if the slut walk will protest for those women raped in Kashmir and in other remote areas of india?http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2011-07-22/india/29803120_1_army-personnel-army-men-kashmiri-womanhttp://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2011-07-22/india/29802766_1_army-men-army-personnel-identification-parade
exactly wt u said is logic
@ 2012,i seriously recommend you get professional help...before it's too late & they have to put you down...
You may say what you choose but we all know that a woman dressed like a slut will be treated like a slut. Just like a man dressed as a cleaner will not get respect when he tries to enter expensive jewelry store.
well, to the topicthe girls in picture are way more modest than those here in qatar's malls.
A tiger will ignore food in front of him if he is full!! Animals only eat when they are hungry! So, have your woman at home and then you don't need to "eat" the others no matter how appetizing they might be. But if your woman at home doesn't feed you, well, then ....Is that how it is here?
@ 2012 olympics, tigers are also being hunted in large numbers & are now an endangered species with very low numbers around the world...get it?! :) God made humans different from animals by giving them a brain to think & analyse & that includes the ability to realize that the sight of "meat" in front of them does NOT automatically mean it is to be "eaten"...your language & choice of words are in itself a reflection of your view of women in general & i for one am really happy that my fellow Indian women have taken it upon themselves to teach "tigers" who think like you, some lessons in respect & freedom of choice...
2012 Olympics, wake up mate it's not circa 1411....it's 2011, july 25th precisely...:)-
that U women should behave this way is disgusting. As I say if you put meat in front of tiger he will eat it. dress modestly and no problems.

frenchiemanand have U watch the movie "The Road to Guantanamo"?The movie is more about the inhuman torture and "investigation" tactics by dumb and insensitive Americans law enforcement agents. The "suspects" were mostly not found any militant activities but were found to be "suspects" due to the apparent religious get up and for being found in Afghanistan.Would love to see, more over QL from your side. ;)
Thanks for sharing Frenchie, hopefully this is a another step forward for women & women's rights in India...
How about you post on what interests you, and I'll post on what interest me?Perhaps something on marxism of Mabo Day. LOL!I'm interested in women's rights. And I am glad to see what began as a small protest in Canada spread across North America, then to Europe, Australia, and now to more "conservative" countries like India and South Korea.
frenchiemani'm waiting the day U will start posting from your own side.
How does disrespecting yourself make others respect you? In other words how can you expect people to respect you, if you call yourself a slut?I know many men in India have a problem with ogling, touching and commenting but that does not make women into sluts.
John Lalay--If you don't like the topic or feel we should be discussing something else, then start your own thread. That's the great thing about the forum.
ths is bcz 4 dem weird means normal bt the same thing happening in M.E or Asia den the meaning differs
some people are just in love with Asians, and will feel embarass to post some news of their own weird world.
Please don't waste the milk or break the saucer... It sems only about 50 people turned up :O(
You can read about it here..

any pics to support the above ? :(oh wait, i think we cant upload pics at the moment in QL due to technial reasons...:(Oh wat should i do ?Can anyone get me a saucer full of water so tat i can dive in and suicide ? :(
oops it means bak to middle east ahahahahaha
????
Bhopal?? ohh you mean the town near 'Rawdat Rasid' or 'Abu Nakhlah' in Qatar?
I was told by a Korean friend that it has something to do with Confucious saying women are placed below dogs on the scale of things. And given that the common belief in Korea is that the only reason women exist is to give birth to a boy (and they have a whole museum dedicated to this) I'm not inclined to disbelieve her.
Hope you were not badly hurt..Subhanallah! Anyways as for the "besharmi" bit the ladies in the pic don't really seem shameless hussies..lol. In fact they are clad very decently. So whilst I suppose they are copying the whole "Slut walk" concept they are certainly not dressed the part! All the same I've said it before I absolutely hate calling a woman a slut based on how she's dressed...its just not right!
Vow what a drastic shift, 4m Middle East to Asian Countries
Ahh now come to think of it, I was in Incheon a couple months ago and saw a guy brush aside a girl in the bar. I passed it off as weird. Now thinking back, it must have been something like what you're saying :-(
Not just Korean men Colt, Western men in Korea too. I knew 4 other girls, two Westerners and two Koreans who were hit after they turned down men for a drink at a bar. There's a lot of sexism in Korea and it tends to rub off on the expats pretty quickly. Also, I don't think it's something they advertise very willingly.
Colt ...yeah may be ... or the usual confused lot of Indian youth.
I'm pretty aware of cultural differences due to my line of work, but I must say that's a first I've heard... Korean men hitting women who turn them down for drinks :-(
This is India's shame.
Yes I am wondering why call them sluts if they look so decent?
They're probably afraid of being molested, and maybe men in India support the cause, just as they do in other countries.
The boys must be panzies, so they're also threatened :-(
I was too busy dodging the punch aimed at my face that was coming next Colt.
What kind of slutwalk it is:
- None of the girls are dressed like sluts, &
- What the boys are doing there holding banners??
Really? And did you not kick him in the nuts then? :-(
I shall watch the developmnt of this movement with interest ..........
Good for India and South Korea. I was punched in the cheast in Korea after I turned down a guy for a drink, and I know other women who received similar treatment, so South Korea really needs this type of movement.
If you will put the raw meat in front of the tiger he will eat it.
Hooray for my Indians and Korean sisters! Always absolutely thrilled to see women around the world standing up to prejudice and ignorance!
The movement has now his South Korea:http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/Asia/Story/STIStory_691360.html
