Working for Qatar Airways

I live in Turkey and I applied to Qatar Airlines for cabin crew position last month. I received an e-mail today; they want  me pre-employment medical examinations.

I have never been in Qatar before and although I'm a Muslim, I'm afraid of the strict rules there.

Should I leave everything behind me and take the job?

Is anybody here who works as cabin crew?

Beautybyshikha - Well try Lankan  airways instead and you can have some regular breaks by the sea in Jaffna. The place looks peaceful now atleast in the papers

i was actually goin through ur argument with flyinace.

well i would like to know r u an employee of qatar airways??? and what department r u in? u must be so happy with the airline that ur talking so much on behalf of it.

well as an employee of QR i must tell everyone that even if u do well or bad its upto them to fire u. never expect anythin out of working hard in QR bcoz through experience i know that u can only fall in to more trouble by doing so.

just do ur normal work and stay out of involvement as much as u can.

for a beginer i must say QR is a good place for u to gain experience in many ways, so why not take the challenge.

all the best!!!

U will be working for a ***** airlines and u will be having a great dress too... :) Job as a cabin crew is good always whatever airlines u are working for.But with QA u will not honoured or tolerable at all for oding fishy things at all.U step a simple move and consider urself out of the company. They are very strict.SO in one way u can say that they are very very protective about their staff. That's it..Come and join if u really wish...

Soniya, QA also follows Qatari Labour Law same as any other qatari company. Here in any company the work culture is different then ur home country. and few people are nt able accept that fact n get frustrated easily... thats doesnt mean company policies are not upto the mark.

Also there are people on this thread who has got lot of negative points for QA but they still wants job in QA....

@nowreasonforsmile: villas are not from one end to other end of Qatar, they are nearby and at walkable distance. I can say that becz i have to walk around all the villas almost everyday. and earlier all the departments used to be in QR tower but becz of the increase in employees its not possible to keep all the departments in one single building.

@chocolate : as i told u earlier, rules are strict and it has to be becz of the reputation of the company. Decision is all urs...

BNB, i agreed with flying ace....

One of my friend was working with QA few years back...He really got frustrated with the job because of hire and fire policy....He had seen many leaving the job of QA for this reason only...

Anyways, i am not concerned with it...hope the policy of QA has been changed and improved now....

hopefully they do not also promote a culture of  filling the ranks with a grouping of brothers,  brothers in law, relatives and friends like some of the companies tend to do out here which goes to spoil and corrupt the work atmosphere and also leads to unneccessary clashes by other workers against this mafia groupings of relatives

1- Be ready for long working hours.2- Be ready to roam from one villa to another villa to collect ur uniforms, exit permit than accounts and than ye than vo than this than that...becoz they dont have a big supercool office for all things....U have to do a lot of leg work which is more than tiring..So be ready for unbelievable hardest leg work.(DONT TRUST ME NOW BUT ONCE U JOIN U WILL REMEMBER ME CRYING) and that leg work by wearing high heels.3- Be ready for the strickest environment full of backbiters by which u can get fired any moment any time. They have one of the most firing and hiring atmosphere.4- U are not entitled for any free thing at all.And they mean it.(ONCE U JOIN U WILL REMEMBER ME FOR IT TOO)5- And they have BIG MAMAs to keep an eye on u all the time.U take one drink out with some buy and u will be handed over your dear firing letter within 24 hours.6- And dont worry your own roommates are big supporters of higher authorities to keep them inform about u.7-They are***** airlines and they have their own norms to make it clear to all employees that HOW TO BEHAVE....8- Again be ready for long working hours, hiring firing air,no freebees and no jokes or nightouts...They know well how to handle the cats.....And damn they are damn good in it....

i guess this is never ending topic between me and flying ace.

but Ms. Chocolate, hope u r aware that QA has won the award for best airlines and you might be aware of the achievements. also everywhere in the world, cabin crews has to follow certain rules as they are the face of the airline. If you are scared abt the rules of Qatar then let me tell you that Qatar is nt as free as Dubai but its safe as compare to dubai.

Flying Ace, employees of QA does their job and gets paid for it...if work not done they should nt be in QA.. also there are people in each n every company who leaves the company even after they got promoted as per their wish without serving notice period just becz they are getting better offer in other company. so if u r working upto the standard then no company will ask you to leave.

The employers of QA talked about the dressing rules in Qatar, for example the length of our skirts or shorts. Or the Ramadan rules... It's forbidden to eat and drink outside during the fast time. Although Turkey is a Muslim country, we don't have such rules.  So now I have prejudgments on living there....

Qatar has strict islamic rules, compared to say UAE. But nothing over the top like Saudi. My friend works for QA. She has a 3:30 am curfew (which is fine 'cause all hotel clubs and late night places close by 3 am give or take). Also, you can't have a guest in your accomodation past 10pm.If your walking around on the street / outside malls, be prepared to receive all kinds of unwated attention from guys in white land cruisers. But shouldn't be a problem as cabin crew are trained on how to handle unwanted attention, lol.

Well, Qatar itself does not have Strict Rules, Why not do a Search on QL, regrading this matter, there have been threads previously Regarding Cabin Crew working for QA.
